First cook under belt
« Reply #-1 on: March 01, 2015, 08:07:04 PM »
Hello all
Completed my first cook today ( sorry no pictures)
I think I jumped the gun though as I should have waited for a day when 1/2 foot of snow wasn't falling.

All in all it was fun and will definitely have pics from next cook.

My bbq thermometer decided today was the day to quit as well.

Chicken and ribs were good, family loved them, but definitely room for improvement.

Will keep reading the forum and pray for spring.

Thanks to all

As dear ole Winnie said, "Nevah, nevah, NEVAH give up!"   That's what we all do--just keep truckin and that's what makes you better than most people.   Keep it up.

Thanks guys,
Oh I will definitely keep plugging.

My daughter already requested pulled pork next weekend.

Hoping mother nature will oblige next week.

It was funny, I almost didn't tryy today as the snow started flying much earlier than expected.

But my shiny new PBC was just sitting in the garage, so I figured "what the heck".

I definitely had fun, I tried a couple of the Dog Day spice rubs (Raven's Righteous rub on the chicken and Moxy's Neurotic rub on the ribs).

Wife and daughter loved 'em both, but I kept saying "I can do better".

Was happy nothing ended up in trash can, so all in all not a bad day.

Definitely a learning day though.

Thanks again for the encouraging words.

We are our own worse critics! My wife tells me the same thing and I'm always thinking/saying "that was good, but next time I think I'll try a bit more of this or that..."

Looking forward to your next results!

I did a butt this weekend and it was great. Use a rub that carmelizes into a nice bark and put it on thick. 4 1/2 pounder took me about the entire life of the coal basket pretty much. With one any bigger you might have to reload unless you're wrapping or moving to the oven. So far mine has done a bunch of cooks, in snow, rain, wind and cold and hasn't seen a sunny warm day yet.  :(
