Couldn't Resist Accessory
« Reply #-1 on: September 10, 2015, 06:27:57 PM »
After reviewing 1Bigg_ER's post on the Slow N Sear (http://www.letstalkbbq.com/index.php?topic=14698.0) and
after exchanging a few messages with him I purchased the Slow N Sear. I placed my order late Monday Labor Day
and received it this morning. I plan on doing a pork butt on my kettle this weekend so I wanted to test it out today
to see how well it held the temps.

I had a small rack of beef ribs which I thought would be a decent test. This is the ribs after 1 hour at 275.  I ran the
cooker at 275 for 4 hours until they were done.  I then shut down the vents a bit more to bring the temp down to 225.

Here it is running a steady 225 after another 4 hours. Total so far on one chimney is 8 hours.

Here is how much charcoal is left as I type this.  I will see how much longer it is going to stay at 225. I have a feeling that
it may go another 1 to 2 hours.  Still plenty of water in the reservoir.

No plated or finished shots of the beef ribs. I was hungry!  :D

Initial impression is that I like this very much.  I only added about a cup of water to the reservoir when I lowered
the temperature.

More to follow with my butt cook this weekend.

As far as I am concerned there is no comparison Jack. I also have the Smokenator.  This holds more charcoal and
has a trough for the water. It is much much better in my opinion. I will bring it with me to the get together next month.

I have a SNS in my 26" Weber Kettle and will testify that it is a fantastic upgrade.  It does a wonderful job for two stage grilling where say you want to cook thick steaks away from the coals and then sear them just prior to taking them off the grill.  I recommend you bore a small hole through the opposite side of your Weber (opposite the SNS) just above the grill grate level to run your Maverick wires through to monitor meat and grill tempts.  The manufacturer sells these on Amazon.com.
