Goal met, firing up The Good-One
« Reply #-1 on: April 13, 2017, 12:25:40 PM »
In Nov, I was diagnosed a T2 diabetic. A1C @ 9.2.  That day, I committed to a new lifestyle, to make living with diabetes easier for me.

Started a low carb diet to control my sugars and lose weight.  Set a goal of losing 80 lbs to start.  Made a deal with my wife that when I crossed under 300 lbs I would get a new smoker.

Open Range arrived today.  Initial seasoning is underway.  Briskets will be on Saturday night for Easter dinner.

Weighed in this am at 299. A1C level last week back under 5.7.  (don't tell my wife I ordered the smoker early.)

Great choice on your smoker. I have had one a little over a year now.
Gonna be hard to loose more weight though, because you are going to be wanting to fix ribs, brisket, trisket and all the good goodies.
I have also put a hasty bake charcoal grate over the charcoal grate in the Good One. Too much small lump falls through the grate on the Good One.
At $20 bucks a bag it adds up. I loose no charcoal now.
Tip: Good Ones love Jealous Devil lump. Give it a shot.
Have fun, they rock.
