roll-around kart for a BGE - BigGreenEgg

my good friend Larry just bought an 18"/LG BGE on sale ($675)
but they wanted almost $500 for a nice kart to go with it
so off to Lowe's for pressure treated 2x4s & 1x6s & some stainless screws
they had a set of plans to work from on the BGE website so it gave us a starting point for some of the critical dimensions. we did vary from the plans a little. we added the wheels and the handles and changed the length and the overall table height.
back to my driveway and the saws and screw guns.
this is the raw kart. Larry is staining it tonight.
tomorrow I'm going over to help him put it all together
more pics of the finished rig tomorrow

basic plans for the kart attached as a PDF file

Nice looking cart.  You're gonna love the big green egg.

Really nice job there Jack!

One thing I eperienced recently with the current generation of pressure treated lumber - is that it does not want to take stain easily until it has dried out for several months.

The method and chemistry used in treating the lumber is different than it used to be - and the stainless fasteners are a great idea. I have seen even hot-dipped galvanized screws used on PT lumber begin to corrode within 2 years.

T - I couldn't believe how much moisture was squeezing out when I ran the screws in !!

I know...it is amazing how wet they sll this lumber Jack - but I guess you are better to use it while it is "fresh" because it is at least as bad as the older PT at warping, twisting, etc.

I had a contractor tell me to spritz it down with water every few days for the first year to slow down the drying out process - and help it stay straighter! I did not do it...just not practical.
