King prawns on salt plank
« Reply #-1 on: June 05, 2013, 02:47:23 PM »
The other day I bought a salt plank, so today was time to try something new. I heated it up in the mini egg at about 320°F. Inbetween I prepared the king prawns with EVOO, garlic, thyme and rosemary - of course I left any salt away, that's the plank's job.

Enough said, here are the pics:

The king prawns were very tasty - and with a pretty dominant salt flavor. Amost better than the shrimps were those herbs that were baked in the salt - yummy! Next time I'm gonna try those shrimps on a bed of thyme and rosemary on that salt plank.

Wow!
Awesome pictures WC! How long will one of those planks last? Are they brittle? I would be scared of breaking it.

WC,
You did it again!!  Another quality cook.  Those shrimp look great.  I guess I need to be on the lookout for a salt block to cook on.

I don't know how long it will last. The guy at the store said, that he broke one plank with too high heat. Though it seems to be solid.

Looks good WC! I always wanted to try one of those salt planks but read that they seem to be more of a gimmick. Although your results look outstanding!

We had a couple of threads on another forum a while back about Himalayan salt blocks.  You might want to look here and here.  Or not.

I got a salt plank for Christmas. It's a little bigger than yours though. Now I have a better idea on what to cook on it.
Thanks WC and that is an excellent looking cook.
