Charcoal grill?
« Reply #-1 on: June 07, 2013, 09:54:03 AM »
Not sure I want to add a charcoal grill, besides my Treager pellet smoker or not. I have had samples from Sandmans PBC and liked them! He likes his PBC. I see a lot of you discussing Weber and Old Smokey, I like the looks and the price of the OS. I would also consider the Stok from Home Depot, it has a lot of nice features. http://www.homedepot.com/p/STOK-Charcoal-Tower-Grill-SCC0140SB/202656790?N=bx8h#.UbHi6L7D9hE you can see more photos at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Stok-SCC0140MX-Tower-Charcoal-Grill/dp/B0073YNQ6G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1370613180&sr=8-2&keywords=stok+grill

Aw, go ahead and snag one Don.  Everybody should have at least one charcoal cooking appliance  ;D

Actually, the reason I bought a PBC and still have my good ol' Weber Performer is that I occasionally crave charcoal flavor.  You can get charcoal pellets, but they don't have any flavor at all.  The Weber is wonderful (and easy to light thanks to its little propane bottle lighting system) for a few steaks or burgers and the PBC is a really low maintenance way to cook split chickens.  I do ribs in it occasionally, too.

I only have six cookers right now.  Not sure if that is enough  ::)

Don, I have a Stok grill and have not been overwhelmed by it.  Home Depot was the reseller before and the stores had them for $49 each.  I rarely use it.  I cant seem to get it hot enough, when I use charcoal I like extreme heat.  also the lid is cumbersome and you have to set it some where to attend the grill.

I walk past the stok to use my webber with grill grates.   I would try to find a webber charcoal on craigslist.

others may have had better luck.

I'm kinda with Hub. I use my Weber Performer a lot for big meals. It IS easy to light with the little propane thingy... I use my PBC much more - it is a power cooker and so easy to plan for meals. But when I just need to do some dogs, brats or burgers - or a quick steak or chicken breast, I keep going to my rusty trusty CB 500X. Then there is my outdoor flat top... I guess I am not a high tech guy...

I also think that a charcoal cooker of some sort is a great addition to your arsenal. Sometimes you just want that good ole charcoal flavor with your animal parts.  :P. Ok absolutely love my PBC

If I only had one cooker for charcoal it would be my 22" OldSmokey
If I only had one outdoor cooker it would be my 22" OldSmokey

absolutely one of the kewlest indirect charcoal cookers I have ever used
http://www.letstalkbbq.com/index.php?topic=2794.0

and when it's time to sear, just add a couple of bricks to raise the fire pan
http://www.letstalkbbq.com/index.php?topic=2794.msg51394#msg51394

and the basic cooker only costs $64 !!

I have to agree with the Captain. As much as I love and respect the Weber Kettle, the Old Smokey for the price is the way to go......
