Title: Northwoods Orange Maple Old Fashioned's
Post by: hikerman on July 30, 2014, 05:14:52 PM
I have put a number of these great elixirs down thru the years, but the supperclubs that served them wouldn't give up their recipes. So I just enjoyed them whenever I could. Tim wanted a recipe so whenever he asks, I oblige. I started  the search on the internet of course and came up with this.

1T pure maple syrup
2oz whiskey
a few splashes of orange bitters
a squeeze of fresh orange
ice
orange rind for garnish

Mix first four ingredients in rocks glass, add crushed ice and garnish.

I asked the resort's owner and got a very similar recipe, but they top theirs with a touch of seltzer.

Now I had to make a run to the store to get the ingredients for my new lab project. Could not find orange bitters so here is what shook out. And it's mighty fine if I do say so myself!

Fill up a rocks glass with ice cubes.  Add:
2 splashes bitters
1T orange juice
1T pure maple syrup
2 oz bourbon of choice
orange slice for garnish

Cheers! Now I believe it's nap time before dinner!

Thanks Gene!!!

That sounds like a great drink - I will be making some of these. Just one thing: When you say "bitters"...Angostura? I have a collection of bitters, each with their own flavor twists...

Yes Tim I used angustura, but if you can find orange give that a try. There are many Old Fashioned recipes but these orange maple are the cat's meow! And they slide so....beware!  8)

We have some serious "experimenting" to do with Old Fashioned's.
