Title: Whipped potatoes or mash em
Post by: 1Bigg_ER on March 25, 2015, 08:01:01 PM
Here's my version of mashed potatoes.
I use Yukon gold potatoes. Steam rather than boil those  spuds. The less water logged the spuds are, the better mashed potatoes they produce.

Cut em up in small pieces and pull out your hitech steamer....

Should take about 30 minutes to get fork tender

(http://i1175.photobucket.com/albums/r636/emtawali/20150325_162143_HDR_zpsp0bih7fs.jpg) (http://s1175.photobucket.com/user/emtawali/media/20150325_162143_HDR_zpsp0bih7fs.jpg.html)

After they're done, pass them through the same hitech steamer instead of mashing. One less item to wash.

Now season with salt (best seasoned with smoked salt) and white pepper, a bunch of melted butter and one egg yolk. Now pull out your whisk or whisk attachment for an immersion blender and lightly whisk Until the mess just comes together.

Taste for seasoning and enjoy

Bangers and Mash

Nope, I wouldn't be here today. Chances of salmonella in eggs are about 1 in a million.

potatoes are probably hot enough to cook the yolk.

I will have to try with the yolk, I usually melt butter in warming milk or cream before mashing by hand.

Raw cookie dough FTW.  My wife knows better than to even buy it in the bowl because I will just hit it with a spoon before she can bake them.

I'll give your version of mashed potatoes a shot.  They did come out nice and fluffy looking.  Bangers and mash, OH YEAH!!

FACE PLANT!!!! :D

Those look incredible. And sound rich as I can imagine ;) Egg really brings something to the game that cream cannot. Just a different kind of elegant, savory satisfaction.

I love mashed taters and make 'em often  ;D   Your version looks good to me.

I usually make them with Irish Potatoes (bakers) diced and boiled in heavily salted water.  When they get just to the tender stage I drain them then mash with several big dabs of sour cream and sometimes a little milk to get them to a smooth mixture stage.  I never whip them with a mixer because I like to get the occasional lump just to prove they didn't come out of a pouch  ::)

And, the very best part?  They are the world's best excuse to make a gallon or two of GRAVY.  8)

A little different than my method, but certainly worth a try.

They came out looking spectacular, especially with the GRAVY on 'em ! ! !
