Title: Lawry's Rotisserie Chicken Seasoned Breast on a PTG
Post by: smoker pete on December 17, 2012, 09:16:04 PM
Visited Sam's Club last week and found Lawry's NEW Rotisserie Chicken Seasoning Blend as featured on Sam's Club Rotisserie Chickens.  Can't go wrong with Lawry's - Right!!  Love their Seasoned and Garlic Salts.  I knew I would have to try some of this ...  Rubbed a huge chicken breast on and under the skin with EVOO and applied a liberal amount of the new Rotisserie Chicken seasoning blend.  Rested the breast in the fridge for 4 hours.

This new Traeger PTG is going to be just right for the two of us for many weekday meals and on the road with our RV.  No need to fire up the MAK 2 Star for one chicken breast.  Preheated the PTG to 180ºF/P-3 with Gourmet BBQ Apple Pellets.  Smoked the breast for an hour.

After an hour I bumped the temperature to 350º until the IT reached 170ºF.

Chicken Breast after resting under a foil tent for 20 minutes.  The breast was extremely moist and tender - along the lines of what I expected from a pellet grill.  The Lawry's Rotisserie Chicken Seasoning Blend had an excellent flavor profile and will be used again  :)

The PTG holds 5 lbs of pellets.  I used about 3 lbs but that included seasoning the grill on high for 45 minutes (reached temps over 500ºF) and 2 hours of smoking/cooking.  Not really concerned yet about pellet usage but glad I swapped out the 3 position Traeger controller with the Ortech digital.  BUT I've been spoiled by my MAK and I can see that my learning curve on how this unit performs and the 'P' settings will take some time.  Overall, I was satisfied with this unit's first performance.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Yes it is Pam.  Like I said ... it's hard to go wrong with Lawry products.  Since we tend to eat a lot of poultry this seasoning will give us another flavor profile to enjoy!

Interesting.  What's in that rub?

Found it at Sam's Club the other day.  Lawry's calls it Rotisserie Chicken Seasoning Blend and it says "as featured on Sam's Club Rotisserie Chicken".

On the Lawry's label it says ... "Use this flavorful blend of garlic, onion, and paprika on chicken to give it savory roasted flavor and a golden color without using a rotisserie" ...

Ingredients:  yellow corn meal, sea salt, spices (including paprika and parsley), yellow corn flour, sugar, garlic, caramel color, citric acid, onion, extractives of paprika, and natural flavor.

A man can't live on "Jan's Dry Rub" only ... but you can try!  :D  Once in a while you need to use another flavor profile  8) ... Gonna try doing scalloped potatoes and pork chops on the PTG tonight.
