Title: Sunday cook
Post by: TMB on May 19, 2013, 11:23:17 PM
Well, Kimmie asked me what I wanted to cook for Sunday so I said steak!!  ;)

So I pulled a few thin cut ribeyes out of the freezer dusted them with Gunpowder seasoning.  While I had the grill hot Kimmie's mom asked if I could grill a few hot dogs.  So tossed a few Nathan's hot dogs and grilled them.

I made a smoking pouch out of foil and stuffed it full of apple chips, set it under the grate on top of the trough and started cooking

Sorry pictures are low quality, all I had was my cheap phone to take picture with  :-[

Tommy,  Looks good.  What is the temp on the top of those grates?  I've never heard how hot the G2G grates get.  Dee

Not sure on this cook but on a good day (no wind and warm temps and full bottle of fuel ) I've seen 600 +

That's not bad for such a small cooker.  I've got 800+ on my five burner Quantum and can't remember what the SRG gets to.  Any word on when the new ones are going to be available?   Dee

Not sure when the SRG will return.  I can get 650 + on my SRG's and 900 + on my Heatwave  ;)

The GrillGrates work better with each use.

Not all the way  :'(   You can't burn meat the same way on infrared like you can on charcoal.  I think I need to buy a little charcoal grill just to cook her food

Tommy I have been meaning to ask you but I like how you added Grill Grates to your G2G...but I am curious with it already being infrared what are the benefits to adding the Grill Grates?

Thanks!!!

The factory grates are not that good. Most of the dripping fall down on to the trough and some smoke/flavor comes back up to the food, where as the Grill Grates catch most of the drippings and send a whole lot back up for flavor + my food does not stick like it did with the factory grate.

If Kimmie can tell a difference then you know there's something to them  ;)

As for adding the grates, I used bolts to hold the grates to the factory grates.  Since it's a portable grill I didn't want the grates to slide all over the grill when moving it. I would think it would damage the inside of the grill and I didn't want that

I like mine with the Grill Grates , but one thing I have found.   If I cook with a new bottle (1 lb bottle) it really gets up there in heat but if the bottle gets low the temps seem a little less.  I'm going to get the 20 lb tank hose so I can hook it into the Grill2Go and not worry about running low again
