Title: 6 Uses For Leftover Bacon Grease?
Post by: Hub on August 30, 2013, 12:30:14 PM
My first thought when I saw the headline of this article was "what leftover bacon grease?"   Unless I've got an awful lot of it, I just sop it up with whatever is convenient . . .

Some of these uses are pretty common.  Others may be more creative.  Got any more good ones???

I always use it as part of my hot German potato salad.  I did flavor some JD with it, once.  I keep good bacon grease that has been strained of any big pieces of leftover bacon, or whatever, just in case I need to kick up a recipe a bit.

My mom always did home fries in bacon fat and they are a rare, but memorable, treat now that I'm in my 40's.  I also find that congealed bacon fat makes an excellent binding agent for rubs on pork loins, briskets, and even poultry ... the flavor is subtle but there.

And, though I lack the baking skills to attempt this, I'm thinking of asking my girl to make this for me:  http://thinking-with-your-stomach.blogspot.com/2011/05/infamous-bacon-bread-not-suitable-for.html

Click through that link at your own peril.

I have used it in the past on cast iron pots and pans to re-season them. Just save it in the fridge in one of the old canning jars.
