Ribs on the Daniel Boone
« Reply #-1 on: December 16, 2014, 01:13:23 PM »
I got my grill one of those blankets that are suppose to hold the heat in the cold temps. So I decided to try it out and see if it worked. Wasnt sure what I was going to get when I went to the store, looked at almost everything they had and the only thing that stood out was some ribs that were already cut. Said the heck with it and got them.

The new blanket/cover

RIbs ready to go in

Veggies ready for later

Ribs going in to smoke for several hours

After smoking for several hours and ready to go to the charcoal grill for some crisping

Charcoal grill getting ready

Ribs and Veggies on the charcoal

On the counter and ready to eat, didnt get any finished grill pictures as it was starting to rain

Some ring on one of the ribs

Thanks for looking,
Tommy

Looks good. They look like "country ribs" which aren't really ribs but cut up pork butt. (I think it is butt.) But they are still good.

Why couldn't Noah have swatted the 2 mosquitoes?.

The CS ribs look great.

So how do you think the new cover performed? Could you tell a difference?

Hck of a good looking cook. Also curious about how the thermal cover helped  with pellet consumption......

Thanks guys

As for the cover/blanket, it seemd to help with pellet consumption. I only used it once in cold weather before I bought the cover, temp was around 30 degrees and had about a 20mph wind. It used 1.5 hopper loads of pellets for a 5hr cook. The only cook so far with the blanket on, temp was around 32/34 degrees, but didnt have any wind. I smoked those at 170 for 4 hrs and only used about a half a hopper full of pellets. I know the wind could have been a big problem with the pellets used before, but even with the cold temps, this cooked seemed to be about the usage as what I used in the summer for a comparable temp/time cook.

Was it worth the $80, I guess if I get more than one years use out of it, then yes. If not, I am not sure it will save me $80 worth of pellets for one winter.

Good looking CS ribs!

Adding an insulator to the hood like that will definitely help with heat retention during the cold winter months ;)
