My New Toy!
« Reply #-1 on: March 10, 2019, 11:18:16 AM »
I have been wanting to try Kamado cooking for quite awhile. I mentioned it to Jaxon and he found me a new Char-Griller Akorn,
graphite in color,  for $175 in Macon. They are retailing right now for $328. Naturally I jumped on it at that price. Jaxon checked
it out and grabbed it for me. We drove to Byron yesterday and picked it up, along with the smoking stone.

I am doing the initial burn this morning and seasoning the cast iron grate with Flax oil. This is what I used to season my
Blackstone and a couple of frying pans.

I will be doing a pork butt for my first cook on Tuesday.

Congrats on the great deal. You will love your new Akorn, the learning curve is a little frustrating at times but you will get the hang of temp control fairly quickly. Just remember to start with a small fire and don't chase your temps. It takes about 15 minutes for a change in the vent to show up. It's real easy to start chasing your temps. The Akorn is so efficient that once you overshoot the temp it's very hard to get it back down.
