If (and when) Weber makes a pellet grill?
« Reply #-1 on: May 23, 2013, 11:34:24 AM »
It seems like everyone is throwing their hat in the ring these days when it comes to pellet grills. I feel it is only a matter of time when the mighty Weber makes a pellet grill.

So I am wondering what the interest would be in a Weber pellet pooper.  I for one would get one in a hearbeat...whatcha think about it?

Make no mistake - I really like my Performer - it is a workhorse and has lasted several years and will go many more. I liked my WSM - but didn't use it much. Gave it to my brother - it will last years. Weber is well known for well made equipment. I am wondering what else they would bring to the party - are there some innovations they might bring? It seems there are several manufacturers of well made - last forever pellet grills already. I think other than brand recognition, this will be a tough entry for Weber. I for one would be interested to see what they bring, but it wouldn't be an automatic buy.

Smoke Weber often comes late to the party, but often do well because  they use good design , quality materials, have a great warrenty & a great distribution system !
I've been expecting a weber Kamodo for some time , & a Pellet makes sense also.
Weber positions itself on the low end of the high end ::)
I've bought a WSM , a kettle , & a Q-220. They are all excellent cookers!
So if they make a pellet cooker& I can afford a new cooker ::),ill get one!

Do you think they come late to the party on purpose LA?  To either see what everyone else is doing and make improvements on their offering or to just heighten the demand by the long wait for their entry?

There is a lot of development required with building a pellet grill from the ground up. Creating the proper algorithm for the controller takes time. Lots of R&D to get the proper numbers for good operation at all temperatures. I know Memphis took a while to get their controller numbers to work. Lots of failures to get it right.

Then they have to weigh in the market share. Will it be profitable for a company the size of Weber?

Most new pellet grills arriving at box stores are Traeger knock offs of some kind. Chinese made and really cheap. They may wait and see if the big box stores get some good sales numbers with those models before diving in themselves.

Maybe someone shoot Weber an e-mail to find out if there is even one in the works.

I called em a couple of days ago, they said their big change for this year was moving the controls on one of their gas grills from top level to the front. Nothing new under the sun over at Weber...................yet......................
