Whiskey
« Reply #-1 on: January 31, 2014, 11:39:20 PM »
Anyone know anything about these. A friend got these from his neighbor who went to Vegas to get them like 50 years earlier. So they were 50 years old and I've had them for 15 years now. Not 100% on age but what i was told.  Are they any goods. Being in the bottle doesn't help age them does it.

You're correct - spirits do not change with age like wine does when in the bottle

I don't know these whiskeys - did you try them?

Found old ads for sale but not one full bottle of either...

http://www.bambootrading.com/proddetail.asp?prod=L251&cat=226

I think someone on this site. http://www.straightbourbon.com. might be interested in them however.

They have a forum and there were threads about the Continental Distillery. People buying old bottles and posters. You might find out the value from one of them.

Check out straightbourbon.com , look for Charter Oak. Looks like  Buffalo Trace owns it now.

A side note about aging in the bottle.
You can take a piece of charred oak and place it in a bottle of whiskey and it will continue to age it. You can use a piece of an old barrel or even the barrel chips for smoking to do this.
They even sell pieces just for this purpose.
So if you have some shine or get
a cheap bottle of whiskey for Christmas put a few pieces in it, place it back on a dark shelf, forget it for a year or two or five ....

FB, were it me, since spirits do not age in the bottle, I'd drink the Calvert's as it is a common blended whiskey, and the Continental Charter Oak I would investigate the value of it, then decide whether to try to find a buyer or drink and enjoy it as well.

The site Mike posted looks interesting, good place to find a buyer!  Good Luck!

Thanks for the info.  Wish I would have had some old barrels 50 years ago.  Then I might have something

Photo-bucket was giving me a hard time so I couldn't comment earlier.

This bottle was given to me by work friends, I said I would never open it until one shows up ;D

Really not worth selling, I'll give them another 5 years to show up 8)
