Thanks to TentHunter (Cliff) I am now "hooked" on making my own various sausages.
I haven't ventured
as far as getting a sausage stuffer, etc, but I am headed that way!
What I found out the other day when I ground
up an 8 pound pork butt for sausage is that my wife's Kitchenaid Mixer attachment will work, but after 8 pounds of raw
meat going through it the mixer was starting to heat up. Since I don't want to be in the doghouse I decided to just
buy a meat grinder for burgers, sausage and whatever. After numerous hours of research and talking with a few other
members of this board I decided on buying the
STX MegaForce 3000 Air cooled meat grinder. Reviews all over the internet
and Amazon were outstanding. I believe I saw a photo posted by Old Dave and he has either the same one or one similar.
Anyway I ground up a couple of chuck roasts for burgers to test it out. 5 plus pounds of meat, sent through the grinder
twice, and no problems whatsoever.
It's a size 12, comes with 3 cutting blades, 3 grinding plates, 3 sausage tubes and a Kubbe attachment. The parts are 100% cast aluminum.
They need to be hand washed and dried right away which is no big deal. The whole thing weighs about 12 pounds. Oh, did I mention that
there is a 3 year 100% warranty on this? All you have to do is register your grinder on their web site.
Now on to researching sausage stuffers, etc.
