Title: Hello from the Pit Pirate BBQ Team in Northern VA
Post by: Pit Boss Mike Hedrick on November 25, 2011, 09:41:46 AM
Howdy yall!
My name is Mike Hedrick and I am the Pit Boss for our Award Winning Pit Pirate BBQ Team. I've done a lot of cooking and media related stuff and enjoy spending time cooking with family and friends and I love to share information.

I believe if you are going to be talking about your food you need to post pictures of it in the process or the finished product.... or you didn't really cook it.

I'm know for saying a simple "I'd eat that" after seeing some good food in a post.

Looking forward to seeing what might get going here.

peace
mike

Hey Mike,
Where in Northern Virginia are you from?  I used to live in Herndon for many years before retiring and moving to NC.

I know where Jacksonville is.  My son has in-laws in Swansboro, and I have a former co-worker who summer-over in Swansboro at the beach.  And, I certainly know where Lake ridge is located.

Where did the name Pit Pirate come from?

I'm known here locally on the Potomac River as Pirate Mike. I've been on the water all my life and years back I got a Peg Leg so the name stuck.

Pit comes from Barbeque Pits. So we are kind of cooking Pirates.

I've competed also as Pit Boss for NASCAR Legend Jeff Hammond's "Pit Crew Barbeque Team".

Back now competing for myself with my Brother Steve, my beautiful Wife Michele and a few friends.

I know some of you folks and have done a ton of cool things since I last posted around yall.

I was a Fan Reporter for both NASCAR Races at Bristol Motor Speedway this year where Interviewed on video Owners and Drivers and other celebs. http://www.youtube.com/TheMichaelHedrick

This led to me being known as The Fan's Reporter which led to my own NASCAR Blog. http://thefansreporter.blogspot.com/

That got picked up by Premier Beef Jerky maker Perky Jerky making me their Official NASCAR writer. http://perkyjerky.com/blog/category/the-nascar-fans-report/

For the August Bristol Night race weekend Pro Sports Management & Marketing hired me to represent Sharpie Permanent Markers and be their Face of the Brand and EmCee.

Bubba Burgers and I worked together at both NASCAR races at Richmond International Speedway

My friends on Speed TV had a few Pit Pirate BBQ lunches when we could catch up.

Let's see a few recipes came out in Char-Broil's latest cookbook America Grills which was an honor too.

The Team and I donated and cooked for over 400 at a Patriot Cruise for Wounded Warriors which really was the highlight of the year.

So even tho you had not heard from me I was busy!

Next year will be even better I pray.

That deal fell through with the man promising a years worth of work if I gave him a reduced price then he backed out after a main season ended. Lesson learned was CONTRACTS.

I got a little away from cooking this year doing a bunch of NASCAR Reporting, Videos and Celeb Appearances. Made $72.40 an hour working for Sharpie at Bristol Motor Speedway for the Night Race weekend. Hopefully my Agent can sell more of that. I did way too much Free stuff this year which I'm not allowed to do anymore.

I got no idea what 2012 will bring other than I am still working on my own BBQ place and always will.

Thanks for even asking
