Title: Farewell dinner for an old friend
Post by: Scallywag on December 03, 2014, 08:41:03 PM
This is my faithful friend and dog Sadie. We rescued her at 6 months from a shelter and she has been an absolute joy for us. She recently started going into heart failure and we have had her medicated to keep her comfortable, after today's visit to the vet they told us it was time... She in pain. So tomorrow at 5:30 we have to say goodbye. My heart is broken but at least I know she won't be suffering. Every time I had a steak for supper she would always be right beside me, knowing she would always get some when I was done, it was almost a ritual. So tonight she got her own.

Goodbye's are hard... Don't how I will find the strength to do this tomorrow

So sorry for you Scally! You did Sadie proud. You gave her a great life that she would not have had without you. Think of all the good times and the loyalty you shared. We will say a prayer for you, your family and Sadie.
What you have to do is not easy....but be there for her and don't say goodbye, say, see you later!                                       Hang in there buddy!  :-[

We had to put down Betty's dog Buddy on August 30, while she was in the hospital. We went and got Buddy for her after her husband Al died in Jan of 1999. It was an extremely hard decision to make. Buddy had cancer in his lungs and in his mouth. We were assured by the vet he was not in pain (cancer cells do not have pain receptors) but when he couldn't empty his bowels on his own and could barely breath, we had to do it. It was even harder to tell Betty that Buddy had passed. She passed away one week later.

Rest assured it is a very calm and peaceful and humane process. We had a home service done. Wendy had her hand on Buddys heart when the 3rd and final injection was administered. His little heart stopped beating before the syringe was empty.

My nieces dog was also named Sadie. He had a heart attack at 6 years old and died in her arms a couple of weeks after Buddy passed.

Take it from someone who has had more losses this year than one man should go through ( 2 dogs, 1 bird, Betty, Mama and Pops ) God Bless Sadie and her wonderful parents that are doing the most loving unselfish act.

Aren,
My wife and I send our thoughts and prayers to you and your family.  Losing a pet is like losing a family member.  We have been through this, also.  It doesn't make it any easier.  I still miss our pets.  Remember the good times.

This is the time in pet ownership when true love for God's lesser creatures must be honest and brave.  Those who truly love their pets do not desert them.

The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this — the last battle — can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
 Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close — we two — these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Sorry to hear, but you did a great thing by rescuing her and giving her a great life.  The steak dinner was a great thing, may she rest in peace pain free, and give you the strength to continue enjoying the get memories you shared.

So sorry to hear this. A pet can hold a place in your heart as much as one of your children. As time goes on just try and focus on the good times and the joy she gave.

Really sorry to read of your loss, scally.  We lost our baby girl, a toy poodle that was completely blind to a heart attack on 11/21 - she was only 13.  My wife carries around a little stuffed poodle toy and places her in the same spots as her baby.

Losing a loved one is never easy
