Post by: smokeasaurus on December 06, 2011, 08:47:49 PM
I am pretty much a one forum kinda guy. Mostly due to time and was wondering if my fellow SOTG brothers and sisters will be hanging here more than on SOTG because I am gonna have to drop one and I sure don't want to lose any of you!!

Some how or another I have myself involved with 8 different forums all pertaining to BBQ and Smoking. With the new hours I have been working I have been reduced to doing more reading than posting but I am usually around. As for the SOTG forum since they did the upgrade it is crashed and not operational more than it is up and running. In light of that fact I haven't been going there as much.

Being retired I have the luxury to apply as much time as I want or need to be active in a few forums.  Presently I split some of my time with the Bradley Smoker, SOTG, Pelletheads, and now LTBBQ.  Like others have said you can easily find me.

I'm going to be wherever Pammie, Dee, TMB, CB, T2, Old Dave, muebe, smokeasaurus, TwoPockets, tenpoint5, Jaxon, Bobo, Ron D, smoker pete, and Terry way down in Alabama are. OK, wherever all my friends are. But mostly Dee.

I hope we all will continue to keep in touch with the other forums out there. Lots of good info - and you can't have it all in one place.
What I stay focused on is whether we at LTBBQ can do more to build a more positive user experience. I can tell you that Rick and I and a couple of big names ;) are working on some new features that will add content, and give us an attractive front page with a collection of blogs attached to the site

Of course - you can always lean on folks that you like on other forums to come over here and bring their talents and recipes :)......HINT- HINT ;D...

I know what you mean Tommy.  Just tried a minute ago and still can't access SOTG.  Been that way most of the day and off and on for quite a while!! :(

It's Saturday morning and SOTG is down again. At least it's reliable in here. Let's get some more bodies in here.  I like it here with the CHAT. It's almost as good a talking in person. Does anyoneknow who we contact to let them know it's down? I have talked to Mike a few times about it.  Pam ★*˚°。°

They know it's having problems.   Problem is they don't seem to be in a hurry to repair the problem

I hope one day they will see what the deal is and fix it, I like that forum and the folks on it.

Pam - recruiting new posting members is key to build this site to it's potential. It is the one ingredient that will position us to create even more previously unheard of features and benefits for members ;) BTW - we do have a very high ratio of posts per member. That is great, it just means that most of the folks that come here will actually participate.

So I again ( my apologies for beating this drum so much - but it *IS* important ) I ask all of you to make a concerted effort to invite folks to LTBBQ.

It is commendable that the comments about our friends at SOTG are not negative, and please let us maintain that position. I do not know what problems they may be having at this time. But here is what we do know: When Char-Broil went to a different company or group sometime back to maintain the SOTG site - we began to see a degradation in the site; "up-time". That is not much, and they are not talking about it to the members. Not much more to say than that, as again - I want to focus on the positives.

LTBBQ is owned and run by the admins. Period. But we are a much smaller forum too....... so as we grow the challenge of site reliability is always present.

In no way do we want to alienate anyone from other sites by allowing LTBBQ to be seen as "anti-" anyone else. Hey - it's an imperfect world full of imperfect machines and people.  We hope that SOTG gets their problems solved as most of us use more than one forum. Nothing to hide there. ;D

And - don't be bashful about re-creating content for the LTBBQ site about any products that are used.
Because we are consumer driven, this should not be a problem with any manufacturer. We are - after all attempting to further support their product, which can only help their sales. ;D

And, Jack...the potential for this site lies in YOU.....the members. The admins are anxious to hear YOUR ideas. The purpose of  LTBBQ is to be user driven not - a brand directed, or a specific kind of cooker format.

So, go out amongst the vastness of the inter-web and find folks that you like, or that seem amiable and fun. As we grow in numbers, content will become broader and richer.

The fun here is limited only by our individual desire to treat this place like it belongs to each one of us -  to use as our own outdoor kitchen and party deck, filled with friends and fellow cooks.

Because - it does. ;)

I'm here and SOTG.  Both seem to be identical with the exception of down time at SOTG.  I'm sure they'll get it fixed.  Phil

The appearance of the site is the same software theme for sure Phil.

But the reality difference is that because we are not owned by a manufacturer of grills we can feel a bit more free to discuss any method and make of equipment without being disrespectful or feeling that we are imposing...or taking liberties with the generosity extended.

No disrespect to Char-Broil whatsoever. In fact we like those folks a lot

The appearance of the site is the same software theme for sure Phil.

LTBBQ uses Simple Machine Forum  — SMF in short — software which is a free, professional grade software package that allows you to set up your own online community within minutes.

SMF is written in the popular language PHP and uses a MySQL database. It is designed to provide you with all the features you need from a bulletin board while having an absolute minimal impact on the resources of the server. SMF is the next generation of forum software - and best of all it is and will always remain completely free!

It's the same software that SOTG, Bradley Smoker Forum, Pelletheads, and many more use.  Some use an older version but LTBBQ, SOTG, and Bradley use version 2.0.1

Yep...that is the truth Pete.

It is the people that create the feel of a site regardless of software. I think we are especially fortunate to have the cream of the crop with our members
