Title: Sold my car yesterday
Post by: muebe on February 21, 2015, 09:44:51 AM
So I had a 2004 SRT-4 that I purchased brand new. Had a Hotchkis Racing Suspension, Diablo Sport Programmer, Apex-i Turbo Timer, Blow off valve, and only 24,605 original miles.

The mileage is the reason why I sold it. Because I hardly ever drive it. I was paying registration and insurance on a car that just sat there and was driven very rarely. Car had been through 3 sets of tires and was going to need a 4th. And not because of tread ware but due to age.

So I decided to list the car on Craigslist Wednesday afternoon. I figured maybe it would sell in like a month or so. Boy was I wrong!

My e-mail started blowing up with messages. Had out of state offers for more than my asking price! People wanting to trade a vehicle and cash for it etc. You get the strangest offers on there.

So a guy came out from Ventura. Looked at it, drove it, and gave me cash for it. Gave me my asking price and did not even try to talk me down. He knew I wouldn't have budged. The car sold in 2 days!

Had I known the response for this car would have been this way I would have listed it higher. I was right at the KBB value. Obviously this car was not only special to me but other people too.

I am going to miss her :'(

Although it seems everyone out here in California seems to own that roller skate with a battery and a hamster for an engine I will not. But I could load one into the back of my Silverado and bring it to your place Tee.

Another reason I sold it is the wife has been looking at new Suburbans ???

Take a picture of the Dodge minivan you replaced it with.

Good news Mike!
I hate selling stuff for the simple reason that I want what I ask for....no more, no less. Most folks don't feel good unless they feel that they've talked you down.
Last 3 things I sold on CL went good, I always put FIRM PRICE in ad.

Was that the replacement to the Dodge Neon? I bought one in red the year they came out. I liked that car. It was red, which is the fastest.

Glad to see you got what you asked. Most people over price so that when they get asked bottom price they can go down some. I'm like you guys. I put in the add what I want and if you ask me what my bottom price is I reply "you're looking at it".

I hear kia get's great reviews.  ???

I hate it when someone says "I'll take it" without any question. It's the very second you know...
Looks like you got a fair price though.
My son and I rented a Suburban for our trip across Colorado,Utah and into Nevada. The good news is it got really good milage considering its size. Averaged over 20mpg over the trip! It has the two stage engine so I guess that did really help.
It is a Big vehicle for around town... It would be a great camping machine ! With the seats down I could stretch out completely with plenty room for gear as well.
It was also fully loaded and almost required a pilots lisense to operate. Very comfortable.
Just have a good grip on your wallet when you go in to look...

Don't take a suburban into an older parking ramp. You may never get out.
Don't ask me how I know???

Sold my Expedition the same way.   Advertised in the local paper for a WEEK--not ONE call.   Took some pics, posted on Craigslist and it sold the 2nd day!   Cash deal, no trade, no haggling over the price.     Oh, yes, I had ONE pic in the newspaper ad--several on CL.     Hated to sell it--loaded with everything--and I mean EVERYTHING.    But, when I sold my business I could no longer afford to drive it.  Ok while I had the business, cause I was charging MOST of the expenses to the company.     Boo hoo!  It did come back and bite me in the a.. cause I had depreciated it out and had to pay taxes on the sales price.   Durn gum't--they get you one way or 'tother!

With that low mileage I'm not surprised! I would have jumped on it in a second. I spent a month or two this last summer shopping for a first car for my teenager in that year-range (2004-2007) and had a hard time finding less than 100K miles...

I hate car shopping.

Yeah people did not believe the mileage was that low but it was. Had a 1.3 mile commute to work for years then when I moved I started the company truck home so it did not get driven at all.

It was my fun car. I used to take the canyon instead of the freeway in it. With the racing suspension  and z rated tires it handled like a dream. Loved driving it. Very little turbo lag and tons of torque. Car had more torque than horsepower.

I know a teenager would love this car but I am glad another 40 year old guy bought it. This car was too fast for a teenage driver. A teenager would probably have an accident in a car that fast.

Tough day I am sure.....not easy letting go.......I have a 2004 Dodge Durango that is coming up on 260,000 miles & I need to put $1,600 into it.......The problem is my tailgating stuff fits to the last inch. Problem number two is I am six foot five plus. I am also tall from the waist up so I don't fit in 90% of the new cars, trucks & SUV's.  So I am looking for a 2006-2009 Durango with low miles. Three weeks & no luck!!!!

You always hate getting rid of your "sporty" car. When my second child was born I took my Datsun 240Z (pre Nissan days) in and traded it for a Ford truck. It was the official end of my youth. I miss that car, it would do 140mph and still have gas pedal left.

Have many fond memories in a 240Z, high school buddy of mine had one back in the 70's.  We did some wild and crazy things in that car, we're lucky we survived those days and graduated from high school. ::)
