The heirloom tomatoes I bought last year and seed saved are really sprouting well.Have 4 up already.
To save those seeds i just scooped out from a tomato, and spread them around on a napkin and let them dry.I just peel off a few stuck to the napkin using just one ply of the paper, and plant them.
Very successful this year, and a super simple seed save.
My LED grow light went POOF when plugged in so just using a regular CFL curly bulb in lamp. The waterbed heat mat keeping them between 72-78 degrees F.

Great to see your saved seeds are doing well! I'm giving straw-bale gardening a try this year along with my regular beds, we'll see how it turns out! All I've found out so far is that I'm hella allergic to the fertilizer I used on them! ???
-
Thanks Don et all.
Kat,friend does bales successfully, lots of fertilizer.
I had some mold on some seedlings.Sprayed with colloidal silver and its gone and hasnt returned.New seedlings now have some, making a batch of silver as we speak!

Let us know how the bug spray works!! Been trying to find something effective, my beans have been chewed on too much already!
-
All looking great so far. :)

Kat,I just took pics and that silver at 10ppm and diluted to 5ppm knocked the snot out of the aphids! The trick is to get to them Immediately when first spotted.
My first 3 trees that got hit hard are still struggling to beat the infestation, but the tree's where the aphids have just arrived....knocked em out like you wouldnt believe.
I was just out taking pics to show the five tree's that were just getting hit last week.I cut off the bad leaves and sprayed 3 times over last week. There are NO new curled leaves, without them I would be in dire straights.
Next year as soon as tree's come out of hibernation I will start spraying.Bet I can beat this stuff totally next year.I have this year under control.Gotta love that silver, effective and SAFE!!
I'll get some pics up tonight to show the control tree's.Its looking good on the bad tree's,but so damaged pics arent of much use.
Edit- I see i didnt mention here,it was consensus what was curling leaves was aphids, and colloidal silver showed in web searches of aphid killers. It is surmised it works by killing the bacteria in their stomachs they use to digest the plant matter.Sure seems to be working really well,I will keep this part of thread updated.

Here are my tree's just starting to get aphids last week.Cut off bad leaves, sprayed three times with both a 10ppm and a 5ppm solution of silver,no new aphids!

Very nice!! Those are looking lovely! Yeah, that silver seems to work like a charm on so many things!
I mixed up a batch of garlic, mint and cayenne spray from a recipe I found online, which said it's a good all around bug deterrent. Only bad thing is, it smells really yummy while you're cooking it and makes me hungry! :)
I'll get some pics of the garden soon-- growing some container potatoes that are doing great. Need to take out one big cedar tree that blocks a lot of the sun to my garden area, my plants are usually pretty slow to get going!
-
Enjoy watching your garden grow so keep the pics flowing.
Ours is just a simple garden

Thanks Art. :)
Kat,keep us posted on your concoction please! ;)

Some peaches from the dwarf peach tree's,very cool!

Mmmm!!! Nothing in the world like fresh peaches!!!
We planted some trees this year on our farm, but the $(@#*&@*^# goats broke through the fencing at ate most of them. Have two little cherry trees that might pull through, but my peaches, apples and mulberries gave up the ghost. :'( Jerks!

The tomatoes so far
(http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d109/mightybooboo/mightybooboo002/htsv350_zpswectk2rv.jpg)
lots of sweet 100's coming on
(http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d109/mightybooboo/mightybooboo002/htsv353_zpsag49p668.jpg)
Im using potting soil and mulch.water morning and night.Every few days I use water from aquaponic tanks. So far pretty good, fair production, late start. Will do again next year as economical on water use,and easy to fertilize, has real potential.
-
Mmmm those look great! Love those sweet 100 plants, they just keep on giving! My tomatoes have finally started taking off too, at long last...
Everything in my garden was slowed down due to a major bone head move on my part... I'd set up an automatic watering timer for when James and I went on our Alaska trip, so the kid house-sitting didn't have to fuss with anything. But the dang program didn't save, so my poor garden was thirsty for a couple of weeks before I realized what was (not) going on. Thankfully we've had really mild temperatures so far most of this summer, so nothing died, just took way longer to get up and start producing! That'll teach me to try and be clever! ::)
-
Got my seedlings started,so far peppers... pepperocinos, plabamo, red cherry and sweet peppers from saved seed, have a couple more in the germination tray.Have purple heirloom tomatoes of a few different varieties, and green and purple tomatillos. Some basil and marigolds too.All doing great on the heat mat between 73-80F.
