So it's that day again - the one where the flag starts off at half-staff in the morning and at noon is raised briskly to full-staff, commemorating and honoring our fallen. If nothing else, that bit of ceremony should remind us all to raise a glass to absent friends (today and any other day you might happen to  have a glass in hand).
