Have you pulled the ark out of storage yet?

Thinking of you with this latest weather headed to Texas.

Don told me that Houston is so big that he doesn't know when a hurricane hits the coast.
It MIGHT rain at his house.
I hope he's right.

Thanks, guys. If you listen to the local weather reports, we need to get into a fetal position and get ready for the end. Earlier they said it should rain about 10 to 12 inches this weekend, but that wasn't dangerous enough so now it is estimated at 30 to 40 inches. If that doesn't help their tv ratings, nothing will. I walked outside a few minutes ago and we were having a little spring shower. It wasn't sprinkling enough to open an umbrella, but I did see three leaves fall from one of the trees.

I will be safe and sound as I live in an area of Houston that doesn't flood. I have a standby generator that runs on natural gas, propane, or regular gas. I have 35 gallons of gas in the garage, 2 full propane tanks, and all the natural gas that I can suck out of the line. I've got a freezer full of meat, frozen pizzas, and ice cream. I've got 300 lbs of oak pellets for the pellet pooper. I have a whole-house water filter so I don't have to stand in line for water at the store. Everything is good so far. Fingers crossed.

Not trying to be flippant, but I am looking forward to the down time for the next few days. Kinda treating it as a small at-home staycation. It's been awhile since I don't have to go anywhere for the weekend. Thank you for your concerns. I'll keep you posted as to what's happening.

Terry, you better hope that doesn't happen because, if it does, I'll be coming to live with you and Kerry.

UPDATE ON HURRICANE HARVEY..........

At my house in NW Houston, I had wind gusts to 7 mph and about an inch and a half of slow rain overnight. Right now, I am outside with no wind at all and only a small drizzle. So far, we have dodged the bullet. I've got 10 lbs of chicken leg quarters on the pellet pooper and trying to fight off the mosquitos. Northeast of me by about 5 miles, they are experiencing flooded streets, but no word if any houses have any water intrusion.

My favorite fishing town, Rockport (about 200 miles away), was blown away last night. Back in the 50's, my dad would take me to Rockport to stay at the Sea Foam Motor Court in Rockport to fish. They had a lighted pier that jutted out into the bay for about 300 yards long. We would start fishing about midnight and by 3 or 4 in the morning, we had caught about 50 to 60 speckled trout, croakers, reds, and flounders. Great times and great memories with my dad.

NEW UPDATE....

It has been raining hard for about 6 hours. Maybe 4 to 6 inches an hour at times. I am still high and dry thanks to 7 - 6 inch drains I put in the back yard. They drain straight into the city sewer system. Even so, they are having a hard time keeping up. I have had to go out in the rain twice and clean the pine needles, leaves , and small twigs off the top of the grates. I finally removed the grates and they are just letting everything go down just fine. There have been 11 tornados in and around me with a lot of damage. The closest one to me was about 12 miles. Dodging the bullet so far but they say this stuff could stick around until Wednesday. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Don, come on over! We have a great little one room apartment waiting... It's a tad breezy and the roosters get a little loud in the morning but otherwise it's great.
For rent you can just have bbq ready in the evening when we get home. Sounds like a win win to me ;D

Terry, thanks for the offer of the one bedroom apartment. Does it come with maid and room service? Will I have to fight the coons and foxes that will be trying to steal your chickens? I can do the bbq every evening. Sounds great.

UPDATE:

It's still raining pretty hard most of the time. My drains are still working and I am high and dry. I haven't been able to talk to Capt. Jack, but I think he normally evacuates because he is pretty close to one of the bayous. I'll keep trying to contact him. Houston floods a couple of times a year on average, but this has been the worst I have seen. A lot of people are starting to live in their attic and on top of their roof. Our CBS TV affiliate got knocked off air by flooding in their entire building.

Stay high and dry Don. When Ivan hit we lost power for over three weeks. That really sucks.

Looks like you are in for a few more days of rain.  Good time to be on the high ground with drains that are working.  Hello and good luck to  Captain Jack, he knows that Gulf  and area well.

The Weather Channel was showing some drains that the city(Galveston) had cleaned the week prior to Harvey and they sure work good when free of debri.....................

A friend of mine called and asked me if I knew of any restaurant in Houston that was open. I told him that he can always count on Whataburger.

After further review, this looks to be a Jack in the Box.

UPDATE:

It's still raining pretty hard. I'm still dry and doing fine.

I finally talked with Capt Jack and he is doing OK so far. He said that he had about an inch of water in his garage, but it hasn't entered the house. I am still worried for him because he lives about a mile from Braes Bayou close the Meyerland area. That is the #1 flood prone area in Houston. Seems to flood there about twice a year. Chances are that the videos of boat rescues you see on all the newscasts are in the Meyerland area.

PROBABLY LAST UPDATE:

It has almost stopped raining here and it looks like we have dodged the bullet at my house. At 9PM last night it had rained 32.88 inches in my area. I did loose power at 2:15AM this morning, but the generator fired up just like it is supposed to. The power came back on at 11:30AM this morning. The transition from Centerpoint power to homemade power was so smooth that my computer didn't even reboot. I finally got cabin fever so bad this afternoon that I had to get out and drive around to see what was going on around me. Apparently everybody was doing the same thing because there was so much traffic in the neighborhood I came back home pretty quick. The Kroger store is open, but they are limiting how many people can go in at one time so the waiting line is about 100 yards long. Luckily, I don't need any groceries. I've discovered a few things around the house that I can improve on to help with drainage. I'm changing a wooden gate to a wrought iron gate so water can flow freely and a sidewalk on the side of the house that is raised up because of tree roots. I'm going to fix both of those problems right away.

I want to thank everybody for all your concerns and prayers, but please don't stop praying for all the people that are in trouble right now all over Houston and surrounding areas. It will be a massive cleanup and repair job. I'm going to volunteer as much time as I can to help as many people as I can. Right now, I know of 11 friends that have high water in their house. As soon as the water level drops, I'm going to help them by cutting the sheetrock up so the studs can start drying out and stripping floors of carpet and wet wood to prevent mold from growing.

Again, thanks everybody.
