Title: New Thermpaen Mk4 with infrared?`
Post by: UWFSAE on March 04, 2018, 02:19:13 PM
Just curious if anyone's taken the plunge and purchased one of these yet:

I'm a fan of combining tools but the way they use it in the video it seems to have a very short range ... and honestly, I don't know the mechanics of IR readings; I know atmospheric conditions and other variables can affect accuracy, and the suggested maximum distance is 48".  Anyone else have a perspective?

A definite downside, you lose the backlight and a bit of water resistance it seems.

Very cool. And since it is Thermoworks it will be awesome. The chef overcooked my steak :)

@Pappy:  I recoiled a bit when it showed the chef finishing a steak on the high side of medium as well.  C'mon Thermoworks, get it together!

My Pops would call well done steaks  "Boot Leather"

I have been told that most steak houses will only cook to medium, even if asked for med well or well done

And that is what they should do.
