Going to be upgrading and looking at the new ecoboost. I know a guy with one who told me some pretty crazy numbers but I cant quite believe them. So tell me if you have one or a buddy does what do you or him get? While towing and just commuting...
Thanks

I have a new one really can't comment on the millage yet. Less than 2000 km.
What I can comment on is, "You have Eco or you have Boost". You can't both.
Boost compared to my old 8 cylinder is simply amazing. There is turbo lag but when it kicks in hello.
Hope this help,
-
I know a few guys that have them, they seem to be averaging anywhere from 16-19. Some tow more than others. I drove it, but ended up with a chevy diesel.
I really like the 2014 Ram 1500 diesel. That thing is going to be sweet!
-
What's a KM? ???
-
1 kilometer is 0.621 miles
We are metric up here Pappy
-
I have a 2012 F-150 Lariat and I get 18-19 according to the computer on the vehicle. I do lots of city driving as well as hwy driving. Bought it new and it has 52,000 miles so that is an average for those miles. Never towed anything with it.

Check fuelly.com. Real world stats there.

There real world numbers of both turbo & hybrids drop more than conventional engines with normal driving.
Turbos especially because they are fun to kick in!
Diesels tend to come closest to their EPA numbers, but you have the initial cost & higher cost of fuel.
-
Well I be on a budget no money bags here lol...probably like $20ish for me...I had thought diesel but thwts pretty heavy duty for ky needs and expensive to boot. The fuel is actually cheaper today being 1.19 per liter vs gas 1.24 per liter.
I can get a eco for $20 all day 11'+ but for a good diesel at that price we are talking 05'ish...
Commuter plus towing in summer of no more then 5k lbs...

My hubby has a 2012 with ecoboost and is getting 17- 18 mpg. Pam ;*))
-
You will get better performance and results with turbo charged engines at higher elevations. So if your located at a high altitude the turbo will be a good option.
But keep in mind that most turbos require premium fuel. The higher compression engines need higher octane. That will need to be included in your MPG analysis. What is the difference if your getting a little better mileage but paying more in fuel costs.
If your going to be doing a lot of towing then a Diesel engine would be your best option IMHO.
-
Not to confuse you with options.....
I own the LAST Ford F-250 Crew Cab LWB with a 7.3 liter diesel. It is a mid - 2003 model. They then switched to the 6.0 liter ( which sucked...) and have tried 3 engines since then - none of which hae either held together long, or been reasonable about fuel consumption.
I get 17 mpg on the highway in the mtns, and 19 when I am traveling Interstate on flater terrain.
My point is - sometime the best deals are not the latest technology......"There is no replacement for displacement"... (old drag racing addadge 8))
-
I signed up on the Fuelly site. Shows F-150 and you can see some ecoboost results.

For diesel I wasnt even considering fords unless older models due to problems. I am all about the dodge diesel though, the onlyest problem I have with them is finding one with less then a billion miles on it lol. I don't know much about the duramax so cant say anything.
I won't be towing tons of weight but in summer I tow very frequently...like every weekend thurs-mon...

I have an 11 F150 with a 5.0 tried and true engine. Decent mileage and tons of power. I work in the automotive industry and have learned to stay away from the newer truck engines until they are at least five years old and real world tested. I know many people that drive 2008 trucks with a 5.4 and they are all blowing up now and costing a fortune. Just my 2 cents.
-
You make an interesting point Scally......a decision like this may be as much about what to avoid as it is what to purchase.
Time tested really means something when it comes to engines and trannys.

just remember that the 5.0 isn't exactly tried and true yet either. However the mustang versions have been surviving some abuse.

What year did that ford engine start?
I looked up 00-03 f250 and there were some nice ones...
Any diff from 250 to 350?
-
The 5.0 came out in its current format in 2011. The main difference between f250's & f350's is the gearing.
-
It's the same 5.0 design that Ford has been using for years. The tranny on the other hand is newer.. But cheaper to replace if it goes bad.
-
There is no possible way that they are the same 5.0 that's like saying that the dodge hemi is the same as the hemi of the 60's. for one thing the new 5.0 has four times as many camshafts.
-
I am talking about the 03 engine 7.3l diesel...when did that start...
-
The 7.3L started in 94, I believe...I know you want something 99 and newer...
-
I am with Eric - the '99 and newer are a more modern body style, and the best of the Powerstroke diesels. I now have 125,000 on min. The engine has been perfect.
-
Yeah now at home and looking it up 99'-03...Now its finding one relatively close in good condition and not a million miles lol...
-
Uncle told me to check out 05-06 chevy/gmc too...
So I think thats the big 3 for diesel..99-03 Ford, 05-06 Chevy/GMC, and 02+ Dodge...also 2011+ Ford Ecoboost...
-
Did a fill up today. This is for the f-150 ecoboost
19.3L/100km = 12.187 miles per gallon

I get 15.6 MPG average in city with my 2009 Crew Cab Silverado. Highest I have got on the highway is 18 MPG. Not bad for a crew cab truck. It does have the 4.8L small block V8 so it can't tow as much but I really don't have anything to tow.
CDN that seems really low for a Turbo V6. Is that with 91 to 93 octane? You a boost junky? ;)
-
Yeah thats absolutely horrible mileage lol...I can get that with my 02 rango R/T 5.9L

I am using the lowest octane at the pump I think 87. Also like to add that this is a newer engine not broke in yet.

You shouldn't use the lowest octane with a Turbo charged engine. It is going to cause the computer to lower the boost pressure and actually lower your gas mileage IMHO. You need premium fuel. That engine is designed for high compression and higher octane is needed for high compression engines.
-
Wow.. I'm getting 15.5L / 100 km in my 2011 5.0L. I thought the eco boost would bet better mileage.

Here's a pic of my precious

I hate how they do mileage in canada. I can never understand the liters per hundred and then they use the imperial mpg which is stupid...no said car does not get 60 mpg lol...

Please bear in mind that we are an international community - and I may add - the ONLY country among our peer group that has NOT adopted the metric system in part or in whole.
Not saying who is right or wrong...but that is my point. We are all subject to forces greater than we as individuals can affect.
So - let's try not to offend anyone, from anywhere else - just because their politicians see things differently than some of us. We kinda live in a glass house - don't cha think? ;) ;D
