How cool, I've always wondered what capers look like while they're growing and always forget to look it up online! Thank you!!
When I was in Belize in May 2013, I tried to sample the fruit of the cashew. It wasn't the season, apparently. It is supposed to be absolutely amazing!! One of these days, maybe.

My dad lived in Costa Rica for a number of years, and they would often have the cashew fruits for sale at the local markets when I'd go for visits. Wonderful and healthy as they may well be (the neighbor lady touted that they cured everything from cancer to E.D) but on a hot day, those markets would smell like death warmed over from those fruits.
Maybe it was common for them to let them get overly ripe/fragrant for extra medicinal properties? Just COULD NOT get past the decaying meat smell to actually try one. (There's been only one other time in my adult life that I couldn't get past the nose on something-- a little cafe in Normandy, France, where one of the gorgeous dessert cheeses smelled like a ripe dog poo. I hear it was divine.)
