Whether you call it "stuffing" or "dressing" (I tend to use the terms interchangeably) the best thing about it for me is that it makes a perfect place to put lots and lots and lots of GRAVY

Typically my stuffing (that’s what I call it) comes from a box. The last couple of years I’ve been trying to make my own. Some of the best stuffing I’ve had was from this hole in the wall place and it had either chicken or turkey in it.

One onion diced, couple of celery ribs diced, mushrooms sliced, I stole a leg quarter from the turkey and pulled it. Next time I would like to do about three chicken thighs instead of the turkey. One bag of stuffing.

Vegies sautéed until soft, meat and chicken broth added according to stuffing directions. Stuffing added and blended until done. We now have stuffing.

Not bad but I am missing something. Maybe it’s the stuffing or it’s the chicken.  Any thoughts or suggestions on how to make the best stuffing are greatly welcomed.

We make a "traditional" cornbread dressing to start, but then add sausage - ( I prefer boudin blanc - the Mrs. likes andouille ...) And some smoked chiles, and toasted pecans. It is a natural for me...being a hybrid of West Texas and the edge of Louisiana both in my up-bringing ;D....I will copy the recipe to the site shortly.
IMHO - if you were add a grilled or smoked sausage of your preference - in lieu of the turkey meat-  to the dressing ( for me - "stuffing" goes IN the bird - but that just help keep me less confused ;D) you already have - you may find that thing that is missing. When I add something that has a meaty, salty, fatty note - I will often put something else in that offers a counter point, so with a grilled smokey Conecuh sausage as an example...I might grill some sweet white onion - an add it in.

We use cheap boxed dressing and then add a chub of rendered Jimmy Dean sage sausage.  Really easy, and not too original, but it sure tastes great

Sure just nuke them first... then let them cool to handle... remember - NO pickles!

I have never stuffed the turkey with this - but as a dressing, it is excellent.
