I need a good food slicer
« Reply #-1 on: December 11, 2014, 05:42:10 PM »
After slicing the coffee brined roast the other night  the motor on the cheap slicer I have started getting real hot.

Can anyone recommend a good usable slicer that  does not cost above $200.00 ??
I do want even thin slices of meat.   The slicer I have will slice thin on top and thicker on the bottom, because the back plate is weak

Right now looking at the LEM slicer but not sure

Also looking at this one

I bought a 10 inch LEM knockoff for around $260 on ebay. Check um out. You will be much happier with at least a 10 inch.

Well not one to buy on a whim, but seen the price and went to the store.   Just seems like a good deal to me, hope I didn't mess up.

But it was 179.00 before they dropped the price.  In store price was 149.00 but they gave it to me for the 99.00 internet site price :D :D :D :D

I have the 7.5 inch Lem and it works great. Though I could probably use a larger blade.

Have a Berkel 825E that we purchased used in very nice condition for $150 and are very happy with it. I would suggest watching for a larger used Hobart or Berkel brand on Craigslist or local classifieds. Finding a model with a longer throw to the slide you can cure pork bellies to bacon and get full slices instead of smaller slicers you will have to cut the pork belly down to fit the slicer.

Exactly my thought too...I bought a 12'' Hobart out of Craigslist for $100 - because the gage plate was stuck. Spent a little time, and $35 on parts - and it is truly as good as new. Worth the effort.

I looked at these but really didn't find any good reviews even on the LEM model.  I really like LEM but these slicers don't seem to hold to the same standard as their other lines  :(

I will give the Gander Mountain a workout and give a report.    I know Cliff had issues with the Weston brand and this unit is or  looks to be made by them.

If it does or does not do well y'all will know.     I'm  not looking to knock any company but I will give a fair review of it.
