Ken I do not know the name of the drug. But you are awake, as they can ask you questions or ask you to move. But you may as well be conked out because what it does is take away total-recall of anything that happens while you are under the influence. When I awake or really when I start becoming aware there is total euphoria. It's the perfect drug for a what used to be uncomfortable proceedure.

I am 65 and it has been at least 25 years since I had one. I don't remember any anesthesia other than them saying "this might be a little uncomfortable", that was an understatement for sure. If they are giving good drugs now I may go back.

Kind of sad that I am sitting here thinking I will let them go stick something up my butt so I can get some good drugs. Can't believe my doctor who is ranked as one of the top in the country hasn't recommended one.

I'll join the chorus - don't delay.

I was one who did procrastinate (5yrs) and fortunately only one small polyp that was removed.  Nothing wrong otherwise. My wife has Crohns and it was "discovered" because of something that showed up during the colonoscopy.

"Downside" is soooo small compared to the upside of peace of mind, diagnosis and treatment if necessary

good to hear Terry.  I think sometimes it's the fear of finding out what we don't know that holds us back.

One thing I would like to add here...

If you have ANY history of GERD ( acid reflux) - or any other gastroenterological symptoms/diagnosis - make sure your Dr. writes the prescription to INCLUDE an upper - and lower G.I - at the same time....Why?

Because - your insurance company will appreciate you saving them money ( 1 event, 1 anesthesiologist, 1 Dr. running both procedures...) - and you will appreciate only having to have 1 trip to the clinic/hospital for both of these procedures.

Just makes sense from both financial, and convenience standpoints.....

I had to have one back in my younger days in the early 80's before they put you under for the procedure. Nothing like having yourself pumped up with air and violated in front of a pretty nurse by a doctor who started his career as an Army Veternarian before changing to humans. So that has left me avoiding getting one now that I'm of age for it and it's the majority of my boss' surgical practice so I really have no excuse.
