Jack Daniels Whiskey Barrel Wood Chips
« Reply #-1 on: May 31, 2016, 10:52:48 PM »
Saw this on Lowes Website that they have these available for about 5.50 on sale.  Anyone try these before?

I was looking for charcoal on sale (Wallyworld had .37/ lb - 5.75 for 15.4lb bag of KBB) and found these by accident.

I never saw any difference between those and other oak chips.
Why couldn't Noah have swatted the 2 mosquitoes?.

I got some in my goodie bag when I judged the Jack a couple of years ago.  I've used them on my Weber a few times.  Nice, sweet mild smoke.  Although you can still get a hint of the whiskey from the chips in the bag, that doesn't come through in the smoke.  Like somebody else said, it is the same effect as any other oak chip.  I still enjoy smelling them, though  ;D

Thanks for the info.  I think I will stick with my local BBQ company and their wood chunks.  They had a pretty good price on a box last time I was there (only had hickory though, waiting on the others.)

I usually try to shy away from the bagged product at the big box stores - usually way over priced compared to what I can get elsewhere.

As a side note - anyone know if sugar maple is useable for smoking?  The neighbor has to remove 5 trees from his yard due to septic tank issues and 3 of them are sugar maple (the other 2 are locust, which I have no interest in).
