Meat Prices

So, I picked up a couple of butts at ChefStore (US Foods) Thursday to smoke for the family this Sunday.

It was $18.15 for both butts weighing a total of 16.6 lbs.  That's right, $1.09 per pound ! ! !

So I don't feel so bad that it cooked down 6½ lbs. of final product.  While I hate the loss of ten pounds in bone, fat, and juice (saved the juice ! ! !), but, putting a protein on the table for a big family dinner and only spending $2.80/lb. ain't all that bad.

Sadly, before I'm done, I will have spent a little more on the baked beans than the BBQ ! ! ! !

They say prices of pork and beef are on the decline. Just not where I live

Bill meat prices are like gasoline prices. You enjoy them when they are low, other times it digs at your craw when prices are high and you're on empty! But you know, your vehicle needs gas and brother you need meat, so do the best you can, when you can and move on!

I picked up 4 butts yesterday afternoon for 1.09/lb.  Not bad at all, considering what they were 2 Summer's ago.  (pushing 2 bucks/lb - wholesale)

BI-LO had some good sized butts last week for $.99/lb but I was too busy and didn't have the freezer space 

I'll keep my eye on the Wednesday newspaper inserts.

The cheapest butt I have seen in my area is still $1.58 lb. Sam's Club.
If it gets down close to what you are seeing I will stock up.
