Any Scanpan fans on the forum?
« Reply #-1 on: January 02, 2017, 08:01:58 PM »
My current nonstick pans are not in great shape. I've heard of this brand before but didn't know anything about them. Did some research and the seem to have a long reputation for quality and a loyal following.

Any users here?

I would also like to hear about them...The mrs. Tee just bought a new set of All-Clad yesterday....*BUT* they do not have glass lids, nor do they have insulated handles. I DO NOT want any "coating" that could possibly come off, get scratched or otherwise me pain in the dairy air ( Minnesota Dept. of Education approved spelling Pap... :D ) which means my wallet....

Let the opinions fly! ( about Pappy and pans only please  ;) ;D ;D ;D

I have had All-Clad for 25 years. Bought them when I worked at Williams Sonoma at a 40% employee discount. They are the best non non-stick pan IMHO. Their non-stick pans are decent, I have one 7 inch.

Scanpan says they will not chip off.

The AllClads she bought are the D5....5 ply, all stainless inside and out...No "non-stick" unless I use enough butter - and that avenue of pleasure has been closed for some time now. ;D

I assumed you were more of a margarine guy :)

I have the LTD. Anodized exterior and stainless interior. They really are heirloom quality.

I personally would go with LTD. Just easier upkeep. My exteriors look very good for 25 year old pans that get used. To get the interior stainless to shine again. Periodically simmer some white vinegar.  ATK has picked AC as the best for quite a number of years.

Yeah...I like the look of the anodized - it stays looking better longer I would bet. Will approach her with caution about exchanging. If you don't hear from me in a couple of days - send in the body sniffing dogs.... ??? ;D

We have scanpans and like them. Cannot compare to the new ceramic pans as we have never used one. Will try a Calphalon with muebe vote of them being good.

Can't go wrong with all-clad.  That being said the best bang for buck in cookware is the cuisinart tri-ply (French made set) and the Emeril Pro-clad(made by all-clad)You get full tri-ply construction with both sets with no "heat plug" bases. Both can be found online for under 300 for a 10pc and occasionally sub 175-200.  Neither is as nice as the d5 but work just as well with all cooking surfaces.  Non-stick is a different beast. None are actually lifetime pans but if used properly can last and last and last.  Rule of thumb.  If you can smell a nonstick pan when you're preheating. The heat is too high.  Scanpan is however known for being to take a lil higher heat than most nonstick.
