First time eating spam? How should i cook it?
« Reply #-1 on: August 28, 2018, 09:44:34 PM »
I bought a small can to try it.

Why not before because as a child all the WWll guys said they were sick of it..

But because many of you love it....I want to try this small can.

So I don't have a smoker...so what is the best way to cook this & what should I eat it with?

I guess left to me at this time in a pan with eggs would be my choice.

Grill it in a pan....next to your eggs, so they can get to know one another. After all....they will be spending the next few hours together..... ;) ;D 8)

Slice it about a quarter inch thick, put it in the air fryer for about 6-8 minutes, then on to a slice of white bread with a bit of yellow mustard. (slice of onion optional)

For a first-time around the block, I'd recommend one of two ways. Sliced and fried alongside fried eggs.

Or finely cubed spam and potatoes fried hash-style, with fried eggs.

I've loved Spam since I was a kid, and it's flexible.   We get the Spam Lite (a lot less salty - lower sodium) and usually keep a can or two on hand.

As suggested above, sliced about 1/4" thick, fried along side eggs is classic.   We've also cubed it up with taters as a hash - also really good.

Cubed it up with some scramble eggs, a little salsa and cheese for breakfast burritos - YUM!

A friend of mine turned me onto slicing it thinly and frying it up crispy - very bacon like this way!

We've also smoked it as an appetizer like RonMan451 did here: http://www.letstalkbbq.com/index.php?topic=22951.msg292286#msg292286   That's also awesome!

You're going to need another can or two!  :D

For the firsts go round, yea fry some.  But save a slice.  Try it fried first.  I like to fry it for SLT's.  (spam, lettuce, tomato) sandwich.

Sometimes I'll just slice it right out of the can and eat it that way, try that slice you save AFTER you try it fried.
Sometimes you have to go in a circle to reach your destination.

Yup, it's good cold, out of the can. V doesn't like it that way, but I do.

Frying just seems to add a little something to it. Kinda like fried bologna, versus cold.

Like it's been said. Slice and fry it in a CI pan to get a crisp on, with eggs, right out of the can, with taters and eggs, grilled, smoked, etc...

Waiting on your reaction.

Had the pleasure of trying the hickory spam this morning. Griddled on my Blackstone. I think this is my favorite variety... So far

UPDATE I Did it..........Re: First time eating spam? How should i cook it?
« Reply #12 on: September 04, 2018, 07:57:20 AM »
Ok I had it for breakfast!!!!!!!!!

In a frying pan one sliced thin, one sliced medium & one sliced thick.

Like Rad said the one slice that was thin & pan fried crispy was the best.

So what do i think???????  I need to try it a few times....I can see why Tommy does not care for it but I sort of liked it.

It does look like dog food ??? ??? ???

I guess with my feet to the fire I liked it but would not rush out to buy it again.......But i will have it again tomorrow  & try it again in the near future.   Bacon & eggs are still the best IMO
