1.  Doors
2.  Joni Mitchell
3.  Dylan before he turned electric
4.  Steppenwolf
5.  Jefferson Airplane - the original with both Grace (she was the second lead female actually), Kantner and Balin.
6.  Janis both with and without Big Brother
7.  Hendrix
8.  Moody Blues
9.  Jeff Beck (he's still playin'!!)
10.  Canned Heat

Great question!  I can think of a bunch more.  Richie Havens, Santana, Mose Alison, Charlie Musselwhite, Tens Years After, The Weavers, Simon & Garfunkle, Mamas & Papas, and on, and on...

1 Pink Floyd

2  Led Zepplin

3 Hendrix

4 The Doors

5 Grateful Dead

6 Bob Dylan

7 Les Dudek

8 Osobisa

9  Frank Zappa

10 Jefferson Airplane

Stevie Ray Vaughan, ten years after, canned heat, Santana.  Ahh, the good old days when a good party fun and you tried to remember it.  All the stuff I did and took at parties should have killed me but the music was fantastic.

Interesting that you're basically talking rock music but no one picked The Beatles, without whom most of the listees probably wouldn't exist.

Also interesting that all 3 picked Jimi Hendrix & The Doors but I didn't see Cream, Marley, or any number of other seminal figures of the era. Jus' sayin'...

Agreed. I've often daydreamed about a show where all of his projects played back to back. John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, The Yardbirds, Cream, Derek and the Dominoes, Blind Faith, etc. And then at the very end Wynton Marsalis and Steve Winwood would walk out for a sixty-minute version of Layla.

I actually got to see Lynard Skynyrd before they became the huge hit they ultimately would become.  It was in either 1972 or 1973 and they were still playing small venues.  There was a local outdoor venue that they played as the main attraction. They sold it out.  It was awesome.

Also saw Aerosmith on their first tour, along with Jethro Tull, Yes (when Wakeman was still with them), and other such legends of 70's rock.  Oh and Emerson Lake and Palmer was the first date I took my wife on (40 years married).

Wow, that's quite a roster. I can only dream....

I did see Jethro Tull with my dad on the 40th anniversary tour for Aqualung, and they had the original lineup sans Jeffrey Hammond. It was great, and Ian Anderson's voice was still top notch.

Extremely jealous about Skynyrd and ELP. But I'll forgive you. :)

To be honest, the Betles were good but not one I would want to see live.

There are more groups I could add but these were to me the ones I just wished I could have seen.   I left out many I know but I had to just do a top 10 list  ;)

I agree I hated the Beatles because of what they stand for. Music was OK at times.

Based on the "see one time," I would definitely say Janis Joplin. Just to go back in time and see someone though, it would be The Moody Blues circa 1970.  A Question of Balance is my favorite album and that was certainly their high point musically.  I have seen them numerous times with the first being 5th row center seats in 1986.  I was the 1st person in line (~18 hours before they went on sale) to buy retail seats at the box office.  I miss the old ticket buying experience.
