Strawberry Pie
« Reply #-1 on: May 03, 2020, 08:06:24 PM »
We went to Costco Saturday and bought some steaks , a prime brisket, and a big container of strawberries. Steph cooked the steak with some shrimp on the new flat top, the shrimp was awesome, the steaks sucked hard! I couldn't believe the quality of the steaks was so poor. Luckily the shrimp and the sides filled me up BUT I did have room for a slice of pie!

She made it from scratch using the strawberries, whipped cream from scratch but I will say that the crust wasn't home made, it was store bought :)

The only pic worth sharing, she didn't even take any action shots on the grill :(

Nothing better than a good old strawberry pie on a hot summer day

I sure would like a big slice of that (or two), but without the whipped cream.
I know. V has already told me I'm crazy.

Looks great!
We used to have a lot of strawberry farms less than an hour from me but many have sold them. There are still a few family owned farms left though. I saw a guy selling berries from his truck on the side of the road last week ad was tempted to stop and buy a flat but didn't have cash on me at the time. I may have to pass back in a day or so to see if he's still there. BTW, a flat has like 16 pints of strawberries in it. It's a lot but I doubt they will go bad. Lol........... May have to make a pie like that.

Here ya go! I think I may have used a few too many strawberries because my filling didn't quite cover all of the berries. For the whipped cream I beat 2 tb of sugar and a cup of heavy whipping cream.

The other day I drove past where a guy was selling strawberries on the side of the road and the strawberries were replaced with peaches and watermelons so I thought I had missed out on the non-store bought more flavorlful berries. Today I took a drive to a Walmart about 16 miles away from home(I find the rural stores to be less crowded than the city stores)and saw a guy on the side of a different road selling strawberries picked early this morning. I stopped and got a flat which apparently they're getting smaller as a flat now contains 12 pint baskets of strawberries. These are amazingly delicious. Well be having a nice dessert after diner this evening!

I've used this exact same recipe since I was in college. It wasn't from TOH back then. So easy, so good!
