New Chapter Begins Tomorrow
« Reply #-1 on: January 07, 2021, 08:23:43 PM »

Well, I start a new job tomorrow which will be a new again experience for me. Not a huge problem for me, it's like 44 miles from home but the drive is basically not in a heavy traffic direction so the drive should be easy.

Only problem I see is that I have been waking up at 3:30am every morning(not intentionally)lately so until that changes the days will be long.

I have the same issue with sleep. I wake up for an hour or more. Then getting up for work is terrible...
It’s been going on for over a year. I don’t do well with sleep aids but I finally found one about two months ago that works and doesn’t bother me into the next day. Equate Sleep-Aid Diphenhydramine HCI,25mg
I don’t know if will will help you but it was almost a miracle for me. I feel so much better in general...
Good luck with the new job.

I can relate, I have a 42 mile drive and I'm up by 5 AM to get going and get there

If I get any sleep at night it's not much but like Terry, I'm up for 1 hour doze off then awake again for an hour just can't go back to sleep

Good luck on the new job!

For anyone over the age of 30....( O.K. - ALL of us... :D)

Do yourself a favor, and have a sleep study. They can be done in your home, without all the wires, etc...so - you can actually relax. My point is that you likely snore - and if you snore, there is a very good possibility that you may have sleep apnea. Sleep apnea kills thousands - quietly - every year. Because it causes oxygen deprivation to the brain, and can result in a stroke and or heart attack.

Do it for your wife, or your kids if not for yourself. Just Do It...( Sorry Nike...)

Good luck to you Nate, by this point you've already had your first day, how did it go?

Thanks guys!
It's a new job but doing basically the same stuff I did before in my own lab. Fabricating dentures, partials and possibly TMJ splints again. I may end up working out of two offices and one of them needs someone with experience badly. I think(at least for now)it'll be a nice place to work after I knock off a little rust. Lol.......

As for the  sleep apnea thing..... Many years ago I actually worked on a couple of anti snore appliances back when I worked at LSU School of Dentistry. It was an appliance that brought the lower jaw forward to keep an open airway which alleviated snoring. I made a couple of them after I left the dental school in my own lab but I wasn't crazy about them myself.

Anyway, I need to dig out some of my own instruments that I used in my own lab even though they were ordering all new stuff. I had modified some hand instruments that produced smoother work. And I ordered some uniforms which will come in in a couple of days. We have to wear scrubs and I hate scrub pants. I ordered some 5.11+ pants that seem to closely resemble the scrub pants. I hope they approve of that. One of the guys was telling me that last week he was walking down the hallway and his pants slipped down to his knees halfway down the hall. Lol......

Thanks again for the well wishes!!!

Alright, so I like the new job but it's taking some getting used to. I used to be able to do prep for whatever I was cooking earlier in the day but I'm having trouble balancing the working and getting home and cooking like I used to. I'm throwing myself into the work I have and wearing myself out mentally. Not trying to impress anyone there because I'm still knocking rust off of my not having done this work in like six years and I let them know it would take me a while to get back into my groove even though I've been told that they see an improvement in the quality of work after just one week of me being there.

I do like that I heard that the owner of this office has agreed to building a nice brick grill/smoker for cooking for the employees. I understand that every so often he throws a crawfish boils or barbecues around lunchtime. Unfortunately he and his family have all been confirmed to have Covid 19 and he was placed on a ventilator on Thursday. I hope he recovers soon! I still have not met him.

I did a little cooking this past week but nothing special. I hope to this week try to do something like I used to cook for weekday meals.
