Windsor Ontario....across from Detroit MI...

I cant find a dealer of any kind brand of pellet except for traeger...

Why not contact MAK, and REC-TEC here on LTBBQ ?- and sk them what they can do to assist? I am amazed by both companies customer service.

Memphis also sells a built-in unit. Nice for a custom back yard patio.

It seems that you are not convinced that smoking food is in your future. Have you ever smoked food? Perhaps, you need to learn how to walk, at first, before you run. A good pellet smoker is a non trivial investment. You will need to spend at least $1000.00 for a product and shipping if not more. Perhaps you should try something more elementary and less costly. You can purchase electric and propane or pure wood and charcoal smokers for $300.00 or less at Lowes or the Home Depot or even at your local supermarket like they sell them here in Texas.

I had a propane smoker and then went to a Masterbuilt Electric over the past five years. I did not go pure wood/charcoal because there is a different requirement to manage fuel, temperature, and air flow. I did investigate pellet smokers because of the "set it and forget it" philosophies and wanted to escalate to a form of wood fire cooking. If you want to go from "0" to "60" and get a pellet grill, then that is a choice. If you want to try it to see if you like it, then that is a choice. I just get the feeling from this conversation that you are not there, yet. So, collect information and digest data until you are sure.

This is not a life threatening situation. This is suppose to be for fun.

With kind regards,

Ed

It's amazing how many of my customers get rid of their gassers after they get into the pellet world. I would easily say 90%!

I called and asked for a quote with shipping from Rec Tec. I am pretty excited to hear back from them and get this party started.  Maybe I can have it up and running for fathers day or my youngest daughters 1st birthday on the 13th...

Pellet popper was one of the best purchases I have ever made. Wife request steaks where we never ate them before. She picks at the chicken before I can get it on the plate. Kids would eat ribs everyday.  Easy easy easy.  Next on the list is a charcoal cooker then maybe a new gasser. Saving up. If you are interested in pellets they are awesome.

If your interested in seeing a Mak in action let me know.. I'm not all that far from you. And I think I'm pretty good around a grille  :P. By far the best pit I have owned and am very happy to show it off.

Well, dang, I am late to this party...but wait... there are a couple of other questions:
1.  how many will you be cooking for?
2.  what kind of budget?

Me?  I'm kinda the middle-budget guy.  $500.00 is an awful lot for me to throw down at one time - although since Thanksgiving I have purchased around $900 worth of new smokers, etc.
I'll probably never spend $1000 on a grill or smoker, but I'm the odd man out here...just funny that way.
My wife STILL doesn't know why I have so many cookers in the back yard (and some in the shed).  Oh, and I tend to be impulsive when it comes to outdoor cookin'.  Its a good thing you're askin' so many questions.

B T W, I've seen the RecTec in action and I was very impressed with the quality and the advanced technology.

Anyway, those two questions (don't answer out loud) could help narrow your search.

When I was looking at a new pellet grill to upgrade from a Traeger my budget quickly rose when I was able to get my Memphis for 12 months same-as-cash. It is much easier to pay it off over 12 months than laying all that cash out at once.

I believe Rec-Tec has a no interest payment plan.

Of the ones you mentioned the MAK would be my first choice. I had narrowed down my choice between the MAK and the Memphis.
