SHANGHAI—China's No. 1 butcher has his eyes on U.S. dinner plates—and the world's.
Shuanghui International Holdings Ltd. said Wednesday that it agreed to acquire U.S. pork producer Smithfield Foods Inc. SFD -1.47% in a deal valued at about $4.7 billion. Should the deal be consummated, it would mark a new foothold for Chinese investment in the U.S., adding food to industries including energy and movie theaters that have proven welcoming to Chinese money.

Not a good happening. Remember how China fared with their baby food, baby formula, pet food, and pet products. All ended in deaths.

Ummm, can't the government stop this from happening. I will not buy any pork from a company that is china owned, I will pay more from a U.S.A or Canadian farmer, Period...... Those things
