You make an interesting point Scally......a decision like this may be as much about what to avoid as it is what to purchase.

I have an 11 F150 with a 5.0 tried and true engine. Decent mileage and tons of power. I work in the automotive industry and have learned to stay away from the newer truck engines until they are at least five years old and real world tested. I know many people that drive 2008 trucks with a 5.4 and they are all blowing up now and costing a fortune. Just my 2 cents.
just remember that the 5.0 isn't exactly tried and true yet either. However the mustang versions have been surviving some abuse.

The 5.0 came out in its current format in 2011. The main difference between f250's & f350's is the gearing.

It's the same 5.0 design that Ford has been using for years. The tranny on the other hand is newer.. But cheaper to replace if it goes bad.

There is no possible way that they are the same 5.0 that's like saying that the dodge hemi is the same as the hemi of the 60's. for one thing the new 5.0 has four times as many camshafts.

I am with Eric - the '99 and newer are a more modern body style, and the best of the Powerstroke diesels. I now have 125,000 on min. The engine has been perfect.

I get 15.6 MPG average in city with my 2009 Crew Cab Silverado. Highest I have got on the highway is 18 MPG. Not bad for a crew cab truck. It does have the 4.8L small block V8 so it can't tow as much but I really don't have anything to tow.

CDN that seems really low for a Turbo V6. Is that with 91 to 93 octane? You a boost junky? ;)

I am using the lowest octane at the pump I think 87. Also like to add that this is a newer engine not broke in yet.
