We are back for a while and then back to New Mexico.
« Reply #-1 on: February 15, 2014, 08:15:13 PM »
Hello everybody,

The wife and I got back to New Braunfels on Friday evening. We took two days for this trip because we wanted to stop at Big Bend on the way back.

We had a great time but it was a lot colder than we cared to have it. However, we had a lot of sunny days and enjoyed the "rustic" ranch experience. We only could connect with the internet when we went to either Santa Fe or Albuquerque.

However, we had the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and went to visit many of the places that we had enjoyed in the past, even went horse back riding around the ranch.

Stopped at Lake Cochiti. The entire lake was frozen.

We went to Kashe Katuhe National Monument. It is also called Tent Rocks. It is about 45 minutes South of Santa Fe. Still had snow on the ground.

Went to see Dave and made reservations for a week of fly fishing up on the San Juan River and to have a couple of float trips. Great guide service and nice lodging.

On the ranch.

Here I am rounding up the BBQ.

Sunset in Albuquerque. And nice casinos too!

Sunset on the ranch.

We had a couple of large BBQ's using the new Yoder. Actually, my friend and ranch manager has used it to break in an have a big cook for family and friends. Then we had a chance to use it as well.

I have a problem as we have divided resources. I guess that I am going to have to bite the bullet and purchase some of the things that we have in New Braunfels and make sure we have the same thing on the ranch. Like another small Yoder wood smoker and maybe a Kamoda type grill.

The wife and I did a lot of shooting on the ranch. We did some Coyote hunting over a two week period and she got 3 and I got 2. We actually get $30.00 a pelt when we turn them into the County. As a matter of fact, we found that there is a bit of a shortage of ammo out there, so I purchased reloading equipment and started that as a hobby out there. Right now, I am reloading 45 acp, 9mm Luger, and 223 Remington. It's actually fun. But it is hard to find the brass in the snow. Duh!

Today, I fired up the Yoder Cheyenne Wood Smoker at the house and made beef ribs. Good stuff and falling off the bone tender. I got to get another one or the Wichita for New Mexico. Right now, we just cooked in doors, or my favorite: going out for dinner.

Everyone is well especially me. If I can do what I am able to do, I really will not be on the internet. I just enjoy being outside and doing stuff and going places. Yeah!!!!

See ya!

Ed

A lot warmer in Southern New Mexico than up there round SF and ABQ!  And, yes, we have "ranches" down here, too.   Like about 80 today, no wind.   85 both Friday and Saturday--some breezes those days, but still delightful.   Try us, bet you'll like us!  Cooked out all three days--steaks Fri night, rotisserie chicen yestday, tri tip today.  Asparagus both Friday and today.   Love that stuff, especially grilled, drizzled with EVOO, salt and pepper!
