Thanks again Dee and Pam. When I go out to the VA home to visit my Dad I always stop and look at the big display case with photos and articles and just a very few of the medals he won. I wondered out who the man was they had named this impressive facility after and did a little research which started the discussion last year.
The Col. Robert Howard State Veterans Home is the most impressive facility I have ever seen and the care they take for our veterans is amazing. They have many levels of care from basically assisted living up to skilled care. The majority are veterans of WW-II but there are many from the eras since then, several my age and younger. There are several ladies in there who served also. My Dad has been in other assisted living and nursing home facilities that were not so nice, but these folks really care for and honor their patients. My Dad will be 95 years old in June and I am not sure he would still be here if not for the VA home.
I think Col. Howard would be proud that this facility was named after him in honor of his service.
