Another thing.  Even when you use the show unread posts since last button link on the top, you sometimes have to hit the unread topics button on the bottom as well.  It seams to have something to do with how long they have been unread, but I am not positive.  So, after logging in hit the link up top then immediately hit the button on the bottom right.  That will ensure that you are seeing them all.
