Title: Using a SRG as a Tandoor
Post by: Hazed on April 13, 2020, 03:20:33 PM
I decided to have a go at using my SRG as a Tandoor oven, results were pretty good.

Chicken pieces marinated in yogurt, garlic/ginger paste, spices, lemon juice and a little oil.  Cooked on high for about 50 minutes with applewood smoke.

Not knowing much about Tandoor, how is what you did different from just using the SRG with the lid open?

That makes perfect sense to use it like a Tandoor oven!

Have you tried making Naan (flat bread) in it yet? I'd love to see that!

A Tandoor is traditionally a clay oven that effectively uses infrared heat to cook at very high temps.  Typically you would use long skewers to cook vertically rather than on racks.  I still kept the lid down for the majority of the cooking time, just opening for the last few minutes.

Making naan and cooking on the side of the cylinder as TMB mentioned is planned for next time :)
