Hi. I am a new member from Ohio and totally new to Pellet smoking. I am planning to buy my first Pellet grill soon, just waiting for the temperatures to warm up a little so I can order the grill and assemble it. I narrowed it down to two brands that I like, MAK (2 General) and Memphis. I know they are both great grills, somehow my heart is telling me to go with MAK. I also read lots of good review about Rec Tec grill but not sure if it would be the best choice for cold temperatures. What are your opinions expert BBQ Gurus???? Thanks for letting me join this excellent forum.

Welcome from SE Georgia! All 3 of your choices are good. You just need to decide what fits your needs and budget. I have 2 pellet grills and if I ever get another one it will be a MAK.

Welcome to LTBBQ! You are definitely setting yourself up to hit the ground running when you decide to pull the trigger on a new pellet grill :)
I researched the heck out of pellet grills a couple of years ago... needless to say, I am a very happy MAK owner.
Curious... what has you currently leaning toward MAK?

Welcome!
MAK is ALL American built. (They will not even buy a screw from China - if that is important to you) It is made of a grade of stainless that will not rust. The controller is equipped with 3 meat probe ports so you can cook three different items and know when each is likely ready to come off the grill. The MAK 2 Star has a smoke box that does duty as a warmer for foods already cooked. And - you can opt for the WiFI controller which will allow you to run your MAK from anywhere in the world where you have internet service. There is a smoke setting on the MAK that will amaze anyone that thinks pellet grills do not produce a good amount of smoke. Yet it can also grill at 500F. You can change out the pellets for a different type extremely easy with a MAK.
Memphis is better at high temp grilling than it is low and slow or smoking. They also offer stainless - but it is not the same grade as the MAK, and can rust. Their controller and the one in the RecTec are made by the same company. Good controllers....not as feature driven as the MAK. I think they offer a quick pellet dump feature as well.
RecTec is a well built, Chinese made grill. It is powder coated, but has some parts that are stainless. It has more "curb appeal" perhaps than others. It has a 40 lb. hopper so - it can hold an entire bag of pellets.
I have owned a number of brands of pellet grills...I currently own 2 MAK 2 Stars.

Thank you everybody for your warm welcome! I am leaning more towards the MAK 2 so I can slow smoke and I like the Cold smoking feature too. Did anybody buy from Big Papa? Do they offer extra promo codes?

I bought mine from BP. No problems. No discounts either. But they might throw in a few freebies.

Check with Bruce @ MAK before you buy....They have been trying to do more "direct" sales. I do not know of any price difference, but worth a call.

Excellent point. Give Mak the whole sale. They earned it.

I'd buy another Memphis again in a minute. But, I don't need to. It just keeps on cooking with only routine maintenance. Heavy steel. Insulated. Fantastic controller locks in temps.
I'm lucky to have two great cookers. I also have a new old stock American made Traeger Texas with a Savanna Stoker controller. If Traeger still made "heavy metal" this combo would be a good one for you, too.

Welcome from a fellow Buckeye, and happy MAK owner since 2011!
What part of Ohio are you in? If you wanted to see a MAK in action, we may be able to do that.
