For Limburger Cheese Lovers
« Reply #-1 on: August 05, 2014, 12:51:53 PM »
I lot of people do not like limburger cheese, I think mainly from the bad smell. The same bacterium that causes body odor develops during the aging of the cheese. I remember my Dad eating it and I said I would never eat that stuff. He bought it in a large cake and his favorite was a rye bread sandwich with a thick slice of it and a slice of onion.

After I got older and was a cheese lover I decided to try some and surprisingly I loved it! The best I can describe the taste is pungent, creamy with a little tang. I like it best just smeared on saltine crackers. We were talking about it at work one day and a friend said try some strawberry jam on top. I thought that sounded terrible but had to try it. Surprisingly I liked that too. I think the salt from the crackers; the cheese and the sweet from the jam go together and give it one great taste.

Lately that has been my late night snack for the dog and me. My dog is a cheese lover too. He can be lying asleep in another room and as soon as I open some cheese he is right there. My favorite jam for on top is black raspberry. I leave the jam off of a couple crackers for the dog. It goes well with some good beer!

I love Limburger!

We eat it when camping. Top a Ritz cracker with some then drop onto a plate upside down filled with chopped onion. So good! And I never have a problem with bugs ; )

I like your idea Don. Sounds good.

I'm fan of Limbuger cheese too, love the stuff.  That sounds like a really great idea Don, I always just eat mine on crackers alone but the jam idea sounds like one I'll have to try next.

I also have a dog that loves cheese as well as a parrot.  Every time I open a package of cheese that Macaw of mine starts screaming for his share.  The only way to silence him is to give him his share, which sometimes turns out to be bigger than my share.  ::)

I have never even tried Limburger cheese.  Don't ever recall seeing any in the stores.
