Title: Shrimp Skewers on PBC?
Post by: cgseymour on May 01, 2015, 04:13:55 PM
Hello All,
Has anyone tried shrimp skewers on the PBC?

I am thinking it might be a good one to do after say a chicken cook, when you have some leftover coals.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Thank you.

Chris

Haven't tried it, but sounds like a great idea! If you do it before me - be sure to include a picture. Thanks!

Heck, why not...after a chicken cook you got 4-5 hours of cook time left........ 8)

Shrimp are really easy to over cook.   With that in mind though the flavor from the pit should be very nice.
Oh and if using docs #6 hooks you can use some stainless leader cable to make stringers for them shrimps....   :D :D :D

Post pics of your results for us...

I have not done shrimp yet but I have done scallops.  Scallops came out amazing.  I cooked them on the grate.  They cooked in about 20 minutes, maybe 25.  I flipped them half way through and both sides got a little bit of char on them.

I suspect shrimp might be 15-20 minutes depending on the size.

I'm think'n no more than 10 minutes on the shrimp.... Medium to Large, even very large.  Shrimp will dry out on you fast and you lose a lot of flavor when that happens.
And if at ALL possible get wild caught American shrimp!

Maybe try brining the shrimp....might provide a little more leeway so far as overcooking them.

Agree with both thoughts.

I made shrimp tacos in honor of Cinco de Mayo last night.  These were already pre marinaded from Whole Foods with canola/olive oil and their tequila lime marinade with peppers and onions.  I placed them in a small cake pan that would fit on the grate.  It actually took 30 minutes to cook.  I believe this to be due to the placement in the pan.  They turned out perfectly though.
