Yep, like the others said, cook it exactly as you would a butt and you'll be good.
I just did four whole shoulders for the
marching band cookout. When I picked them up from the butcher, I had him cut them in half giving me four butts and four picnics.
I often buy whole shoulders because it's more economical.
