Thanks folks! It is not as easy as an "out of the box" cake - but it does give you the opportunity to customize. Different beer, different cocoa, you can change the icing ingredients ...(might taste good with some butterscotch chips in there...) It is a rich, "adult" tasting cake. Not a sweet, light and fluffy cake that you typically expect.
In fact - the cake - without the icing- would even be good with a beer as strange as that may sound.
That don't sound strange to me, in fact it sounds like a great idea, especially with a chocolate stout or an oatmeal stout.
