Title: Smokin in Charlotte
Post by: Smoke Pappy on July 22, 2014, 03:37:15 PM
Hey all ... New to the forum and looking forward to chatting about Q. Also, I'm kicking my offset smoker to the curb and looking into Pellet Smokers ... Leaning toward a REC TEC ... Anyone out this way have a REC TEC or a MAK??

Welcome from Minnesota and a Mak driver.

Not sure any forum can handle two Pappy's. ;D

Welcome from just up the road in Lincolnton.  I drive a Memphis Advantage but there are lots of MAK, RecTec, and other pellet cooker users hanging out here.  Please read my articles about pellet cookery (Burn it in the Back Yard -- Hub's Section) to give yourself some good background so you can enjoy it more.  PM me if I may be of assistance.

Welcome from Morganton.  Several of us from this area get together every couple of months to eat BBQ and talk about what we have all been up to.  Maybe you can join us one of these days.  Our group is getting bigger and bigger.

Art

Teesquare has a MAK and a Rec-Tec.  He would be a good source.  I have a MAK 2 Star.  I have cooked on the Rec-Tec at the Fall Gathering.  If you joined everyone in Augusta, GA toward the end of September at the Fall Gathering you would not only get to meet some really great forum members but you would probably get to cook on a Rec-Tec.  We have had the Rec-Tec trailer there the past couple of years.  Hope you can join us.

Welcome from SE Georgia! I too have a pellet cooker. It is a Blaz'n Grill Works Grid Iron. There are a lot of
very knowledgeable pellet people on this board. As Art stated try to make it to the Fall Gathering. Not only will you
meet a lot of the forum members you will be able to test drive the Rec Tec and any other cookers that may appear.

Welcome from Alabama....   I have a homemade pellet pooper and I have used a Rec-Tec and a Mak.

Both very fine grills, but for me $$$ is an issue right now I'd go with a Rec-Tec

Another welcome from the great state of Pappy - Minnesota....  ;) ;D ;D ;D I am thinking (have been for awhile) about a pellet grill as well. I'll be interested in hearing what you learn - RecTec is my current leaning.

Welcome from Washington State - both seem to be good choices.  I would like to throw Blazin Grill Works into your mix if you have not already considered it.  I got mine in April and have been completely happy (My opinion  Just Sayin'  :D)

Welcome from lower Alabama .  I hoping to own a Rec Tec soon myself.  I've seen them in action at the gathering and really liked them...

Welcome to the forum.

If it's purely a financial decision, then go with the Rec Tec. They're a great cooker and you'll be happy.

If you want the best, and can swing a few hundred more $$, then the MAK 1 Star is even better.  It's made in the USA, has more features, better quality metal, the best controller on the market (programmable & accepts 3 food probes), the choice of accessories is incredible; Griddle, Searing Grates, FlameZone (for direct grilling), & WiFi capable.

When comparing them, don't be fooled by the Rec Tec's apparent bigger size; The MAK 1 Star actually holds more food because it has enough head room for a full sized, fully useable, upper rack which doubles it's capacity (Rec Tec - no upper rack).

Both Grills offer great warranties, BTW.

Welcome from here in the Queen City!!

I cook on Webers, but as you've already seen, there's a lot of pellet cookers here with a lot of good advice.
