Title: HEEEEEELP!!
Post by: 1Bigg_ER on January 26, 2015, 12:22:29 AM
Any ideas for sous vide cooler racks?
I use a cooling rack at the bottom and got this plastic thingy divider rack. The cooling rack shows rust after a few hours and the plastic, I'm not so comfortable with it.

By the way, sous vide corn is a headache to keep under water.

Thanks for the advice on SV corn, I will probably stick to my pressure cooker and BEESR roasted corn on the cob methods.  ;)

Maybe some wooden skewers would work? For now at least. Most metal racks are going to rust no matter how much plastic coating.

Cut them slightly longer then the interior. Should hold the corn down. Won't rust. Cheap. Non-toxic. And disposable.

I have a metal rack just like that and it rusted too.

About the plastic...remember, the food never comes in contact with the water so you don't have to worry about plastic contamination...IF that is your question.

Anybody with a SV supreme, I believe it comes with a rack, does it show any rust too?

As for my plastic rack, I think it's just one of those things that stays in the back of my mind. It concerns me because it wasn't actually made for this purpose.

The metal under the plastic will rust. The exposure to the higher temps may cause the coating to crack. I understand your concern.

Maybe a rack or basket for a deep fryer might work. Even though they are in oil I bet they are stainless.

I haven't had a rust problem yet with my metal rack in the SV Supreme Bigg.

I have some weights from Williams Sonoma for my homemade sauerkraut. Half cirlces and about 1.5 pound apiece. They are meant for liquid, and I'm sure the heat would not be a problem. Instead fo metal, just a thought.  Pam  .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

I figured, since it is actually made for that purpose. I'll have to buy one of those racks

It can be, sous vide rib rack? LOL!
It is a sous vide rack from the Sous vide supreme. I was having a rough time "sous viding" certain things without a rack.

That' s an Igloo 10 quart cooler, daily driver. I also have a 25 quart for larger items.
Or maybe I'm prepping for a second Anova unit???  ;)
